Ten Arizona football players have been named to the Shriner’s Children’s East West bowl watch list. Four offensive players and six defensive players are part of the 1,000-player list that ranges from all four levels of college football.
The four players on offense include quarterback Noah Fifita, offensive linemen Tristan Bounds and Alexander Doost, and wide receiver Tre Spivey. The six players on defense include defensive linemen Tre Smith and Leroy Palu, linebackers Taye Brown, Chase Kennedy, and Everett Roussaw Jr., and cornerback Jay’Vion Cole.
Fifita returns for one final season in Tucson after throwing for 3,228 yards and 29 touchdowns. He has also been named to the preseason all-Big 12 team and Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Bounds’ final season was supposed to be last season, but after a season ending injury, he was granted an extra year of eligibility. He will be playing right next to Doost protecting Fifita’s right side.
Spivey was the ultimate play maker from last season’s offense. He had 381 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, and also had one rushing touchdown. Two of his touchdowns came from 70 and 57 yards.
Similar to Bounds, what was supposed to be Smith’s final season at Arizona was cut short due to injury. After being granted an extra year of eligibility, he is looking to make an impact on the defensive front in his final ride with the Wildcats.
Also along the defensive front, Palu will also be entering his final season in Tucson. Last season, he had 28 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery.
The trio of Brown, Kennedy, and Roussaw Jr. are all entering their final seasons with Arizona. Brown had 93 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and interception last season. Kennedy had 42 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, and two forced fumbles last season.
Roussaw Jr. transferred in from Memphis where he had 64 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and an interception. Cole returns as the leader of the Wildcats’ secondary and was a key contributor to team 122 last season.
He had 23 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack and forced fumble. Cole’s most noticeable stat is the four interceptions that he had, including one he took back for a touchdown against Weber State.
The nominations for the 10 Wildcats add onto the excitement building for training camp and the season opener against NAU on Sept. 5.
