The 2026-27 college football season is right around the corner, and the Big 12 Conference is holding its annual Media Days July 7-8 in Frisco, Texas. Arizona is sending seven players to the event along with coach Brent Brennan, a group of Wildcats who best represent what Brennan and his staff are building in the program.

In the lead up to Arizona’s appearance at Media Days on July 8, we’re taking a closer look at each rep. Today’s profile: sixth year offensive lineman Tristan Bounds.
* 2025 Statistics: Ten games played, eight games started, 628 snaps played, 72.3 PFF offensive grade, 80.3 PFF pass blocking grade, 63.3 PFF run blocking grade
Outside of Bounds himself, offensive line coach Josh Oglesby was probably the most excited when he found out that Bounds was going to be granted an extra year of eligibility. It was a huge sigh of relief that the offense would be getting his leadership back for another season.
“Obviously super excited to be able to be back with this team, kind of for a while I was just waiting to see what was going to happen,” said Bounds. “Once I got that, I was actually on the plane and got a text from coach all fired up and I had no idea what he’s talking about, because I couldn’t get my email.”
The hardest part since sustaining the injury for the Bethesda, Maryland native is remembering that the road to recovery is not a sprint but a marathon. The key to making it to the finish line is being around good teammates.
“It’s really easy to want to look ahead to the next milestone of what’s coming, but just being where my feet are is the hardest thing,” he said. “Makes it a lot easier when you have great teammates. You can lean on them, and those guys are always with me, always supporting me throughout this whole process.”
An offensive lineman is a quarterback’s best friend, and for Noah Fifita, having Bounds back for another season is a blessing. Despite not finishing the season due to the broken ankle, Bounds never wavered when it came to doing what was best for the team.
“You wanna talk about a professional and he’s been that way since he came in,’ said Fifita about Bounds. “He has a contagious personality. Everybody that’s around him loves being around him. Then you talk about the professional he is on the field. He’s been so dominant, been so successful. So I’m excited to get him back.”
The toughness, fortitude, and resilience that Bounds brings to the team showed out during the upset road win at Cincinnati last season. Fifita didn’t know how badly Bounds was injured until offensive coordinator Seth Doege broke down film the following week.
“TB got hurt on the second down, and he knew that we’re going gas tempo, and he knew that if he stayed down Cincinnati would have a chance to sub,” said Fifita. “So with the broken ankle he lined up, and in a cover zero pressure, he kicked step one leg and pushed enough to allow me to step up and make a third down conversion, which ended up being the game winning touchdown. So you talk about toughness, that’s the model of toughness, for sure.”
It wasn’t just wanting to stay in the games that kept Bounds going, he knew exactly what kind of situation the Wildcats were in at that point in the game. The importance of finishing off the drive in the right way helped to lead Arizona to a victory.
“We kind of sputtered out a few times before that, I knew that that drive was super important for us,” said Bounds. “The only thing on my mind is that we got to win this game. That’s kind of the way that I try to approach every game, every snap, just focusing on our team and putting ourselves in the best position.”
The offensive line is in good shape with Bounds returning, but more importantly Fifita will feel more secure. With training camp approaching, the rest of the line will need to be ready to go and follow in Bounds’ footsteps.
