The Sanders family has rarely been far from the spotlight, and 2025 turned the heat up several notches. Deion Sanders battled bladder cancer, went through 16 surgeries, and navigated one of the most public health crises of his post-playing career while his son Shedeur was busy rewriting NFL history books with the Cleveland Browns.

Then, the Colorado Buffaloes’ disastrous 3-9 record made his life miserable online. Now, with the noise still swirling around his personal life, Coach Prime isn’t flinching.

The Hall of Famer made his position crystal clear in a recent social media post, claiming he is living his best life with his family’s accomplishments and a relationship with model Karrueche Tran that has quietly become one of the most talked-about in football.

The scrutiny Deion is brushing off has a specific origin. His relationship with Tran drew immediate heat online with some labeling her a “gold digger,” others mocking around their 21-year age gap. The two were first publicly connected in July 2025, when Tran was seen in a video getting emotional as the 58-year-old was wheeled into surgery during his health crisis.

Sanders, diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer during a routine check-up, even gave Tran an explicit out during his illness. “This man told me, ‘You don’t have to stay. You don’t have to deal with it,'” she said and stayed.

Tran, however, has been direct about her reasons, stating her relationship with Coach Prime is not for publicity but for her own happiness: “If I wasn’t happy and content and feeling good in my situation, I’m not wasting my time.”

So, the Buffaloes coach got a loyal partner, and his son in the NFL is breaking records when it comes to making money. As a proud father, he said, ‘All the scrutiny, the hate, & the drama that surrounds the Sanders family, we don’t care… I’m so proud of my kids… I just had a kid who made the most money in the history of the NFL in sales. That won’t even include jerseys. Y’all don’t know that. That was another deal.’

For those who don’t know, Shedeur literally surpassed GOAT quarterback Tom Brady’s previous record.

Shedeur Sanders makes NFL history with $17.7 million

As Shedeur Sanders accumulated these records, his father used the milestone to answer critics.

According to the NFLPA’s federal LM-2 filing, the Cleveland Browns quarterback received over $17.7 million through his company, SS2 Legendary LLC, between May 2025 and February 2026. This broke the previous single-season record of $9.5 million held by Tom Brady. The revenue comes from NFLPA group licensing agreements, which include video games, jerseys, trading cards, and licensed merchandise.

To put this in perspective, Shedeur’s four-year rookie contract with the Browns is worth roughly $4.6 million. His group licensing revenue for less than a year was nearly four times the value of his entire four-year playing contract.

Though Shedeur fell to the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, his consumer demand tells a very different story. His former Colorado teammate, Travis Hunter, followed closely behind with $12.8 million in licensing income. The two former Colorado players became the top two licensing earners in the league. For Deion Sanders, these financial figures serve as the final answer to the family’s critics.
