Karl-Anthony Towns might face a difficult decision when he enters contract negotiations with the New York Knicks.

The Knicks have already lost Mitchell Robinson since winning the NBA title and will be desperate to keep Towns.

However, the NBA salary cap makes it almost impossible to pay everyone what they deserve.

Jalen Brunson has already selflessly taken less money to keep the Knicks stars together, and Towns may need to follow suit.

Karl-Anthony Towns could follow Jalen Brunson’s example​

Karl-Anthony Towns is already signed to a $57 million deal for next season with a $61m player option for the following year.

However, the six-time All-Star is now eligible for a four-year, $272m contract extension ($68m per season).

The Athletic has reported that the Knicks will “certainly” offer Towns a new deal, but it is not “expected” to be the max.

After Jalen Brunson accepted a lesser deal two years ago, the Knicks will hope that Towns is also willing to take a pay cut.

The report describes this as an “unfair spotlight” for the 30-year-old center, as he will inevitably be criticised if he rejects the offer.

Towns will have to decide whether he values winning another title with the Knicks more than making as much money as possible.
