‘They’d Love To Have Him Back’ — NFL Insider Dissects Aaron Donald’s Cryptic Tease Amid Rams Comeback Rumors

After the Los Angeles Rams landed Myles Garrett, some rumors surfaced that the move might convince Aaron Donald to come out of retirement. The rumors later died down, but Donald himself sparked fresh discussion through his activity on social media, triggering NFL insider Mike Florio to weigh in on the renewed speculation.

Mike Florio Weighs In on Aaron Donald’s Latest Comeback Buzz

Speculation about Donald returning gained momentum after Clutch Points NFL shared an Instagram post claiming, citing Adam Schefter, that a huge buzz was building around Donald potentially ending his retirement. Donald quietly left a simple “” emoji in the comments, which Clutch Points later pinned.

Donald didn’t say he is surely coming out of retirement, but the replies under Donald’s comment speak to a volume of fans’ excitement surrounding his potential comeback, and Florio spoke on the discussion on Monday.

“So, how are we supposed to interpret that?” Florio said. “How are we supposed to regard that? A month after he said, ‘It sure gets you thinking, and I have to see if I can light the fire.’ A month after that, the eyes emoji. And I’m just amazed there hasn’t been more chatter. We’ve had some comments from the Rams.

“They’d love to have him back, but it sure feels like this is going to happen, or Aaron Donald is pulling a head fake on us, or an eye fake, as the case may be. So, let’s keep an eye on this, because the Rams are already the favorite to win the NFC and the Super Bowl. If Donald comes back, I mean, that puts the bar as high as it’s been for any team that I can remember in a long time.”

If Donald comes back with the Rams, the potential trio of him, Garrett, and Matthew Stafford will be a thing to watch.

Before his retirement following the 2023 season, Donald put together a 10-year career that rivals any defensive player in NFL history. His tremendous athletic profile earned him three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards, eight First-team All-Pro selections, and a Pro Bowl selection in each of his 10 seasons. He had 111 career sacks in 154 regular-season games.

As for Garrett, he set an NFL record with 23 sacks last season. Since entering the league in 2017, he has consistently produced at a high level, averaging nearly 1 sack per game.

A defense featuring Donald and Garrett directly feeds into the strengths of Stafford, who enjoyed an incredible 2025 season by leading the NFL with 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdown passes. The reigning MVP also finished as the No. 2 quarterback in PFSN’s QB Impact rankings last season.

The Rams are coming off a 12-5 season and are scheduled to open the new season on September 10 against the San Francisco 49ers. Until then, everyone will be waiting to see whether Donald decides to make one more run with his former team.
