MLS fans were both surprised and impressed by Lionel Messi’s return to Inter Miami after the 2026 World Cup.

Messi led Argentina to the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium a few weeks ago, where they lost 1-0 to Spain in extra time.

While many World Cup stars are still on holiday after a busy tournament, Messi is already playing for Inter Miami.

The Argentine forward made his MLS return in Miami’s 2-2 home draw with Columbus Crew on Saturday.

One wrote: “Some players are still holidaying, and they know we have the league this month. [Messi is] the GOAT for all reasons.”

Fans often describe Messi as the most technically gifted footballer ever, but few appreciate just how hardworking he is.
