WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Multiple scuffles and fights between the Aftershocks and JHX Hoops led to ejections, injuries and plenty of drama Monday.
“It’s sad to see that happen also because that should be a celebration,” said JHX Hoops guard Jacob Hanna, who was involved in a postgame confrontation with Aftershocks guard Marcus Keene. “We should have been on the court, getting to stamp our name on the little thing over there or whatever it is. But this shouldn’t be the story today at all.”
There was plenty of jawing during the game, but Hanna thought it was “just basketball.”
“It wasn’t personal for me at all,” he said.
Wichita State ‘deeply disturbed’ by fights during TBT game
The first scuffle began after a loose ball under the Aftershocks’ basket, where Wichita State alum Rashard Kelly and Kansas alum Mario Chalmers got tangled up.
The benches cleared, and those who joined in on the madness were ejected. This left both teams with just one substitute for the second half.
There was another fight in the third quarter, and after KU won, there were even more. Videos online show Keene shoving Hanna in front of the scorer’s table after the buzzer sounded.
“I kind of turned, and he forcibly pushed me,” said Hanna, who then “ricocheted” into a JHX Hoops video staff member. Hanna suffered a cut to his head and had blood on his jersey as he went to the locker room, but he said he did not need stitches.

Scuffles from on the court then made their way into the team tunnels. Security blocked both entrances to the tunnel. Media was not allowed in the press room, and no players or coaches spoke that night.
TBT said in a statement Tuesday that it was suspending Keene indefinitely.
“While TBT is all about passionate competition, we expect our players to treat their fellow competitors with professionalism and integrity at all times,” TBT said in a statement. “We look forward to concluding this year’s tournament with intense, high-stakes games that are enjoyable for fans and participants alike.”
