Donald Trump and Dana White UFC
Sunday night’s UFC Freedom 250 event from the White House may have been a success, but it does not sound like it will be a regular occurrence.
The event was hosted by United States President Donald Trump on the South Lawn of the White House on his 80th birthday in celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary. While the event went mostly smoothly following a weather-related delay, it does not sound like UFC President and CEO Dana White has any interest in doing it again.
‘We’ll Never Do This Again’
During an interview following the event, White made it clear that while he enjoyed it and it went well, he is not interested in doing it again for a variety of reasons. Primarily, White said, he can’t afford to do it.
“I can’t afford it,” White said via Front Office Sports. “There’s no [freaking] way we can do this again. I’ll never do the Sphere again, and we’ll never do this again.”
As FOS notes, UFC expected to lose around $30 million on the event, but it sounds like the viewership exceeded expectations. Though official numbers have not yet been released, White said that Paramount CEO David Ellison was quite pleased with the event’s impact on the Paramount+ streaming service.
“In every way you can measure success, … it was monstrous tonight. You don’t get calls from billionaires flipping out too often,” White said of Ellison.
Even if money were not an issue, though, White is still not interested in a repeat event after all the uncertainty regarding the weather.
“I don’t ever want to [freaking] be outside again,” he said. “There’s just too much.”
Thankful to Trump
While White might not want to repeat the event, it sounds like he was grateful to have the unique opportunity.
“This event was for America’s 250th birthday. There was no other political agenda for the event, or anything like that,” White said, via FOS. “I was just honored to be the person [Trump] trusted to deliver tonight. I hope that everybody, as an American, feels that we did.”
Still, he continued to reiterate that this was a one-time, unique experience that won’t be repeated.
“It was incredible. It was an amazing experience,” White said. “This was a one-of-one that will never happen again.”
