The New England Patriots are plenty pumped to have defensive tackle Milton Williams lining up on the defense. But who is Foxborough’s newest star excited to play with?
Williams discussed his outlook on the Patriots’ defense on the Green Light Podcast with Chris Long. For Williams, playing alongside fellow defensive lineman Christian Barmore was an exciting prospect. But there was one teammate who Williams thinks he’ll make a terrifying combo with – Keion White.
“I already told him, if we end up on the same side, when it’s time to go rush, it’s gonna get nasty, William said.
Through his first two seasons, White has shown some flashes of brilliance with the Patriots defense. The defensive end racked up a whopping 4.0 sacks through the first two games of the 2024 season.
But as the wheels started to come of Jerod Mayo’s team last year, White production dropped. He openly questioned his future with the team.
However, a new coaching regime under Mike Vrabel and a new defense could rekindle White’s fire as a pass rusher. Williams, for one, sees similarities between himself and his new teammate.
“Keion White, I see a lot of myself in him, just how he carries himself, how he goes about his business, how he works,” Williams said. “Similar body type, fast, strong, got everything in the toolbox to lineup wherever, having that versatility to play inside outside. I pride myself in being able to do the same thing.”
At 6-foot-3, 290 pounds, Williams is on the lean side for a defensive tackle. Meanwhile, the 6-foot-5, 285-pound White is on the heavier side for a defensive end. Between the two, New England now has multiple players who can do damage off the edge and up the middle in the pass rusher.
The Patriots went all-in on Williams in free agency this offseason, making him the highest-paid player in team history. After a dominant Super Bowl run with the Philadelphia Eagles, Williams signed a four-year deal with $104 million.
