'DOMINATED THE PAINT,' 'Down 20 by the Way' -- WNBA World Divided on Angel Reese's Historic Double-Double in Blowout Loss vs. Aces
Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream faced the Las Vegas Aces on Monday at State Farm Arena. The Dream lost 109-87, but not before Reese posted her 20th double-double of the season.
The three-time WNBA All-Star finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 2 assists on an efficient 10-for-19 shooting in just 27 minutes, with her standout performance in the blowout defeat sparking mixed reactions.
WNBA World Split Over Angel Reese’s Historic Double-Double vs. Aces
Reese has been a double-double machine this season. With her stellar showing against the Aces, she became the first player in Dream history to record three straight 20-point, 10-rebound games.
She also became just the second player, behind four-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game since the All-Star break.

Despite Reese’s individual brilliance, the Aces still snapped Atlanta’s five-game winning streak. The 22-point defeat marked the Dream’s biggest loss of the season.
As expected, Reese’s performance generated plenty of reactions across social media from both her supporters and critics.
“Angel Reese is something else, man. No-look behind-the-head pass to herself off the rim. Down by 20, by the way,” one X user jested.
“Angel Reese hits a layup and starts trash talking. She’s down 20,” House of Lowlights pointed out.
“Tied for the least minutes of the starting five, Angel Reese outscored 3 other starters combined. If that happens, you’re not beating any team. The inconsistency of the offense is the biggest issue for the Atlanta Dream ,” one Reese supporter added, calling attention to Atlanta’s team-wide offensive struggles.
“ANGEL REESE DOMINATED THE PAINT TONIGHT. She put together another monster double-double … Angel continues to prove why she’s one of the most relentless forces in the WNBA,” Hoops Nation gushed.
“Angel Reese outplayed A’ja Wilson tonight. Angel needs more help. Angel has more rebounds, the same points, and has shut A’ja down. Yet the hate is real. It’s Pink Barbie Day for the Atlanta Dream. Shame hate,” another Reese supporter vented.
Monday’s game also doubled as the Dream’s “Barbie Night,” celebrating Reese, which some users poked fun at.
“Angel Reese was given the keys on Barbie Night with an empty arena, empty stats, and the L. They should know by now she isn’t making that franchise better,” one Reese detractor quipped.
On the Aces’ side, the credit for the statement win goes to the duo of Wilson and Jackie Young. The two combined for 51 points, helping Las Vegas build a 22-point lead that proved too much for the Dream to overcome.
