Since July 1--17 for 105 (.161 BA), .333 SLG19 R, 5 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 16 BB, 33 K, 6 SB31.4% SO Rate (24.5% career AVG)

His Whiff Rate (28.3%) is the highest its been since his rookie season.

I really like Hazen...for a number of reasons. Not least of which is his commitment to transparency, vulnerability and accountability. The inability to score a starter and/or left-handed/hitting first baseman was largely beyond his ability to control. Yet, he steps up and takes the hit anyway.

I agree and it’s also a reason I am not as hard on Torey as most. The bigger problem to me is there are a couple players that scream “me first”. On top of that I think the organization has gotten too comfortable bringing in guys that love the idea of playing/ early retiring at home(I know that’s Hazen) and I’m not sure it’s a mindset they should be seeking. There have been players like Nolan and that’s great but overall they need dudes that want to win and not just be comfortable.

A large number of fans simply refuse to accept the realities of being a mid-tier market in MLB. By most metrics that measure how a team performs and executes with respect to Wins & Losses, and % of revenue devoted to payroll, total revenue, total # of scouts as compared to large market teams, etc... the Dbacks score consistently well.
But of course, we fans have every right to expect better and, in truth, Hazen expects better of the organization and himself. The bottom line and cold reality is such that, for this team to actually win consistently, it's almost akin to threading a needle as so many things have to break right for them. From scouting and player development, to coaching, to talent retention, perfect trades and perfect free agent signings... As opposed to teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Philly, Boston, San Diego, Cubs, Braves...who, because of their markets and financial resources, can afford screw-ups and overcome them in ways teams like the Dbacks just can't.

I for one will always be amazed at the job Hazen and Torey have done during their tenure. Given the comparative lack of talent and depth, they have won at a rate most did not expect.
This season is a classic example. Entering the season without Burnes, Martinez, Puk and then losing Soroka, Nelly, Gallen (for whatever he was worth), Gurriel and Lawler, Pfaddt being sent down to Reno, while your best 3 players in Perdomo, Carroll and Marte are having career low seasons, nobody had a right to expect this team to be where they are today. Only the larger market teams I referenced can successfully navigate that sort of mayhem...I still can't figure out how they've been able to piece it together and remain so competitive as they should really be more like the Giants at this stage of the season.

If this version of Bratt becomes the pitcher we actually have in him, that trade of Merrill Kelley to Texas and bringing Merrill back to the team will go down as nothing short of GM mastery!
