i think that's it until book's voluntary camp in flagstaff (which is pretty freakin cool of book) in august
new attendees:
miles bridges
luke kennard
pat spencer
koa peat
with the additions of miles and koa (and a more mature maluach) i'm expecting a physical camp - all 3 are coming in with something to prove - a whole new pecking order will be established in northern arizona
at last year's camp dillon brooks came in and gut checked everyone - tested the entire team - got in every player's face and made it uncomfortable - jordan and barkley were notorious for doing this
the team got tougher because of it - hell - the team also got tougher because of ish and his blackjack style of roster acquisitions - matt ishbia likes to double down
needed a center - doubled down through trade and the draft - needed a power forward in the paint - ish doubled down on that through trade and the draft too
point is it won't be dillon brooks testing everyone this year
i think it's going to be a old school wwf battle royal - 13 man death match every man for himself but we'll see old and new temporary alliances being made in the ring
our starters won't be going up against admirers - maluach is coming to block - koa peat is coming to physically compete and miles bridges needs let everyone know why he's here - i also think williams gets tougher with miles (same way we just saw koa and maluach work)
this will not be a cream puff camp - it's going to be grown man business - i'm on record as being a big fan of both dunn and oso but both might have to literally fight for minutes - simply because others are willing to

I used to live right by Lake Tahoe. Every year, I would get to talk with Barkley. He is super approachable. One year, as he was coming off the eighteenth, I complimented him on his golf attire. It really did look like it made him look slimmer. He thanked me, started walking away, then he turned and in a very loud voice, he said, "I look good, but I am playing like ****!" The whole eighteenth crowd busted up laughing at the way he said it.

balance is everything - it's actually harder to score when you put 5 offensive players on the floor because it's defense that leads to offense
players often have great games that don't even sniff the stat sheet - then fans see that we lost by 5 points while playing some guy who only scored 2 points in 20 minutes- and they think the two are related
these fans actually blame the coaches for playing the glue guys - the selfless guys who don't make business decisions around the rim - the guys willing to take it on the chin when zion comes barging in - they often get timely possessions altering the fates of games
they get to waste energy pressing the ball handler all the way up the court - they set the back screens that free up the game winners - they're the only one's back on defense - trying not only to defend but to get the strip and squash the fast break - you know - the freakin glue guys
the suns are awfully deep this year - perhaps "awfully" is the wrong word - the suns are specifically deep this year - specifically in the sense that we have many tools in our bag that can all do something different
but where's the glue - do the suns need some - maybe ryan dunn - he's got the heart - a lot of fans are already done with dunn but he was in two of our most effective defensive lineups last season for a reason
players like goody and oso made their way on to the court as glue guys - then became tools - ryan dunn started out as a tool (rookie year) but ott used him more as a glue guy - the sporadic windmill dunks and corner 3s were nice but ott was never counting on ryan dunn to score in droves
glue guys allow assassins to thrive - glue guys get out of the way - they're concentrating on the rebound and keeping possession or getting back down court on defense while the assassin's shot is still in the air
the selfless are there to help - it doesn't mean they're a waste of space - they are creators of both time and space - the unsung hero gets no praise but without the glue...

Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks both shot 41% on catch and shoot threes in their final year with the Rockets. They had the most catch and shoot attempts on that team.
With the Suns, Brooks shot 36% and Green shot 34% last season.Hopefully there’s some positive regression
If no one gets injured or arrested, I'd expect them both to improve.

Wasn't Nash a consultant to our team last season?
Find it unlikely Nash would be a full coach. He has explicitly stated he doesn't want to pursue head coaching again, so I don't see why he'd want to deal with the grind as a full time assistant vs being a part time advisor and chilling with his friends on the Amazon set.

One thing I always admired about Coach Popovich is that he would suffer mistakes and maybe even risk games in the regular season to get his young players some experience so they weren't completely unprepared to contribute in the playoffs.
Hopefully Coach Ott can do the same this year. Last year they were trying to establish a standard and the young guys were really raw but this season they need to have the expectation of making the playoffs and plan accordingly.

the first few games are gonna be bonkers - who's going to play - what does ott's depth chart look like - is he going to run certain lineups more in year 2 allowing them to develop playoff caliber chemistry
or will it be 13 players playing each night with 13 different lineups each night - will koa sit even if we need him - same way ott sat fleming last year or does ott regret that
ott leaned on grayson and oneale a lot - grayson averaged like 28.9 minutes a game last year - oneale averaged 28.4 - for you non rain men out there that's over 57 minutes of make up sex
miles will eat up half of that leaving another 28 minutes - if miles is starting i'm predicting less minutes for jalen green - i think he's the first starter to come off the floor (barring foul troubles)

Looks like 19th, but 10th in the West. I’d be surprised if GS was above us. And I’ll believe Utah is actually ready to take that step when I actually see it.

Green seems like the perfect sixth man to me. But we know that’s probably not gonna happen.
I trust Ott and the new roster that Suns would finish the 4-5th seed in the West.
Last year we had long injury issues, where GA is gone, Green is expected to be back to normal, MW now gets much improved KM ready to take his min. Playmaking wise, Bridges replaces GA at the PF position with better health. RO's vet role is more than replaced by Highsmith. That's not counting improvement of Fleming, Dunn and Peat yet. From the SL games we saw the active and desruptive defense are still the emphasis of Ott's.
So, we are improved by a lot, compared to other playoff teams.
