Let the haters hate. The Suns gave up second-round draft picks for a guy who was projected to go in the first round. If Koa does not work out, no big deal since they only gave up second-round picks, which most don't turn out to do much. If Koa plays well, it's a good trade. It's not like the Suns traded away first-round picks to get the 30th pick of the first round. Don't understand the scrutiny with this trade.

Well, in a way I do understand. The Suns have so few assets, they really can't afford to make any mistakes.

Hmmm. That is interesting. That is virtually the same it seems to me. Btw. He has a 38 vert at 245 pounds. That’s a bit shocking.
There’s measurements in shoes and shorts… and then there’s how athletic they are on the floor in an actual game.

They aren’t close. Gordon is one of the best athletes in NBA Game Play in the league. Period. Full stop. This dude didn’t even look like an elite athlete in college play. A good athlete, sure.

And that’s not to say he can’t be a good player. Maybe he can. But don’t tell people who watched both of them actually play they didn’t see what they see because of measurements taken off the court… especially when those making that claim also admit they really didn’t watch Koa play.

He is listed at 6'7" which means he is likely 6"6'. Dude averaged 5.6 rebounds in college which screams tweener in the NBA. I think the Suns were trying to find another defensive minded player that would be in the vein of Goodwin or O'Neil except those guys can shoot. This feels like a desperate reach, and we gave up capital to boot. Rooting this was a good pick but....MEH.

So who is available in the 2nd round that we should have taken over Peat?

Every guy left is debatable, but for me I would've taken one of these two:

1. Sharp - G - Houston. I love how this kid plays. Tough as nails, excellent shooter, plays his ass off on D. When I watched him I always thought of Brunso.

2. Evans - F - Duke. About the same size as Peat. But the strength of his game is his three point shooting. One of the very best in this draft.

Other than that, there is not much, even these two, that scream "OMG! We took Peat not this guy!"

That said, I was hoping we would get Sharp.

I really think you are being way to hard on him. He is a 19 year old McDonald's All American who is a good athlete.

His mid range shot looks pretty good in practice actually, check out this vid.

I think this guy could give us something we need, a dude that can box out and score in the paint.
This is actually a fascinating video. I like the coaching, especially with free throws.

Eh I think he was taken at the right slot due to his talent and upside. I doubt he would’ve made it to our pick. I just a difficult time getting excited about another undersized four lacking range on his shot who is also a rather pedestrian rebounder.

The Suns could’ve asked me and I would’ve told them why he fell and likely would’ve fallen even further had they not picked him at 30

I'd never bet against a 19-year-old player with a strong work ethic and coming from a family background such as his, not to mention his accomplishments.

If accomplishments could transition, Peat has them.

What I mostly look for in a big man drafted around #30, is age, measurements, athleticism and work ethic. He has them all.

Interesting note, the Suns did not work out Peat because they didn't think they could get into the first round, but they did have him in for a visit.

It was actually cheaper for the Suns to move into the first round, than it was the second round.

Gambo believes the Suns had Koa Peat ranked 15-18 on their draft board.

His combine measurement is 6-7. That is taken barefoot on a flat surface.

Ok. By “the same” I was talking about the actual measurements. The combination of standing and running vert. I cannot attest to on court athleticism. Sorry I did not state myself more clearly.

He is 19, so he is still developing in his athleticism, I assume.
