I believe the Suns had Koa Peat ranked in the top 15-18 on their board. They love his toughness, athleticism and his DNA - he has been a winner everywhere he goes so they love the makeup. Gives them another junkyard dog type of player.

Gives a physical/tough big to develop as we already have quite a few finesse players in the frontcourt. If he develops even a half way decent three point shot he will pair very nicely with the other core pieces in the front court. Should be noted that his mid range shot last year looked really smooth and fluid so there is some basis for the three to improve.

Peat will fix the shooting I have no doubt
He is going to have to get a lot better to ever get much playing time. I am far from sure he is anything more than Fleming or Malauch. But he does play hard, all the time. I do like that part of his game.

i knew koa wasn't making it to the 2nd round - he wasn't on my bingo card but he fell just enough that we could move up

suns (once again) score a fallen first round talent

i didn't watch the combine - that was all news to me but now i get why he fell - but do i give a damn about a combine or am i going to trust what my eyes consistently saw in the ncaa tourney

this dude is a gamer imo and we got him on his way up - he might've become a top 10 pick next year had he stayed at u of a

if he needs another year we got the g-league - it's worked wonders for our players plus i don't know if ott's going to play a rookie much anyway - especially if was pick #47

we needed a pg or a bruiser/interior painter imo - so i love this pick - i think we have the org that can develop him - i'm all about it

The Suns could’ve asked me and I would’ve told them why he fell and likely would’ve fallen even further had they not picked him at 30
Everyone new why he dropped. He is working on his shot and failed at the combine. Surprise you so negative TJ

I don’t like trading up in drafts for dudes who have low ceilings. I’ve seen enough of Koa to know that he’s limited in the NBA.

As a Wildcat and a Phoenician, I’m super stoked that he gets to continue playing in his hometown. As a Suns fan, I’m nervous that he’s not going to make an impact

I’m not as big of a UofA homer as people think I am.

So you think I'm a homer for thinking he has a chance to be good?

Not what I meant, my friend. Saying that people have called me a homer here for endorsing UofA players in the league.

However, I do stand by my belief that TJ McConnell is the best player in NBA history and should be the new logo for the league

Um. After the video of that call last year, ya kind of wonder if Klutch manipulates their clients on behalf of team owners.
Yeah I was wondering to. After Matt's call he seemed really chummy, and we have drafted 3 Klutch guys now in 2 years.

Maybe they were part of the reason we were able to get the 30th pick so cheap

Not as far off as you might think actually

Quick comparison to context (Koa Peat):
  • Aaron Gordon: 39" max / 32.5" standing
  • Koa Peat (2026): 37.5" max / 34.5" standing
Hmmm. That is interesting. That is virtually the same it seems to me. Btw. He has a 38 vert at 245 pounds. That’s a bit shocking.

I really think you are being way to hard on him. He is a 19 year old McDonald's All American who is a good athlete.

His mid range shot looks pretty good in practice actually, check out this vid.

I think this guy could give us something we need, a dude that can box out and score in the paint.
