Bobby Marks has Mark Williams as the fifth-best restricted free agent this summer.

He would offer three years, $42 million and put Phoenix, Atlanta, Boston & Chicago as the best fits.

The price tag feels about right for Mark Williams.

The problem is with Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin and Mark Williams all being FA’s and the Suns only being $17 million under the luxury tax line it’s going to be DIFFICULT to sign them all AND avoid the tax penalties.

I'm guessing the best possible resolution will be to resign Williams and then trade him. He could bring back some draft capital, or help the Suns move up this year. It would also free them from having to worry about his health next year and every other year going forward.

Yes, Williams is the most important and expensive Suns' FA but at the same time he is the riskiest one as well and can probably fetch the most in S&T.

A realistic framework for what the Grizzlies could receive in a trade for Ja Morant this offseason:
Timberwolves receive: Morant
Suns receive: Julius Randle
Grizzlies receive: Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale, Donte DiVincenzo, 2nd-round draft capital

If I were the Suns, I would consider that.

I'd do that just for @Phrazbit reaction.

If we got a pick or picks them I'd be in favor. They could be 2nd rounders.

Maybe if we were sending out Green, but here we're sending out good salary for bad... and cancer.

Even ignoring my distaste for his personality... statistically, financially, I don't see how that makes us better.

I'm sure the wolves would jump all over it. They get 2 hardened vets at important roles that will dramatically improve their spacing and perimeter defense... at the cost of a guy who quits whenever things get bad, gets techs, plays for stats and they only acquired in a salary dump.

Baloney.

Goodwin is #1, Gillespie is #2. Williams only has value if we can trade him. We will be better off without him, he cannot be relied on, and even at his best you want a better starting center.

I would much rather ride with Khaman and Oso, and just add some vet min center.

Really? I agree we can't count on him and that we probably have to move on from him but when he was at his best, we were a real threat to anyone. We aren't getting a better center than Mark at his best.

MW was a huge reason we were a legit competitive team this season. Once he went out we went down.

I'm not disagreeing. But the perennial injury issues are pretty much established as a given and not a fluke at this point. Add the fact that he would (hopefully) eventually inevitably be losing his starting role to Maluach, and it's not really reasonable for the Suns to sink much of the cap into him long term.

Yeah I've said before I think his future path is likely similar to Biyombo's who was good enough to start but health relegated him to 3rd center. If we could expect 65 games from him, I'd pay him what it takes and he'd be worth it. But since he's averaged only 41 games a season in his 4 years, I don't think he's a risk we can afford.

In my opinion Malawach was just as good as his early season games by the end of the season.

Mark is an ok rebounder a below avg rim defender, an avg post defender, and on offense not much more than a lob threat. I am not seeing the upside. Not saying he has no value - just that I don't want to pay 10 million plus for it, especially when you can't count on him to be healthy for half the season.

The Suns have way too many annual injury cases as it is, even without Williams. You can count on Booker and Allen to miss time, at minimum. Maybe even Green now with the problems he had last year, who knows. With a resigned Williams, that would be about 80% of the current payroll tied up in guys you can just about be sure would miss time throughout the season.

What deals with Jordan Goodwin and Collin Gillespie might look like.

@GeraldBourguet

Gave predictions for Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin’s new deals on yesterday’s
@SunsAfterDark

pod (free for everyone!), but based on what I’m hearing, Gillespie probably gets something in the 13-15M annual range, 6-8M for Goodie. Sounds like both deals are getting close

13-15m per year for CG would be overpay, IMO. Around 9-10m per would be fair.
