Dude, let him go...someone's gonna get a restraining order against you!!
History will repeat itself
Short answer: Tua Tagovailoa, not Kyler Murray.

The Dolphins are paying the biggest "dead money" hit in NFL history to cut a player.

The all-time record for dead money on a cut player

Tua Tagovailoa - Miami Dolphins: $99.2 million
Dolphins cut him in 2026 after a 4-year, $212.1M extension. $54M was still guaranteed for 2026. That $99.2M is the largest single-player dead cap charge ever.

Russell Wilson - Denver Broncos: $85 million
Denver cut him after signing him to a $245M extension in 2022. He never played a snap under that extension.

Kyler Murray - Arizona Cardinals: $54M to $57.8M
Arizona did a post-June 1 release. That means:
- 2026 dead cap: $46.57M to $46.6M
- 2027 dead cap: $7.2M
- Total: ∼$53.8M to $54.7M

If they had done a pre-June 1 cut it would have been ∼$54M to $57.7M all in 2026. 3003d03f8717cd308fc880ee80302ab3

How Kyler compares
| **Player** | **Team** | **Dead Money to Cut** | **Year** |
| **Tua Tagovailoa** | Dolphins | $99.2M | 2026 |
| **Russell Wilson** | Broncos | $85M | 2024 |
| **Kyler Murray** | Cardinals | $54.7M total | 2026/2027 |
30038030

Kyler’s hit is massive — it’s the 3rd biggest ever and accounts for 65%+ of Arizona’s total $73.3M dead money in 2026. It’s also the biggest single-season cap charge Arizona has ever taken. 300385cd8030

But Tua’s is almost double. $99.2M vs $54.7M.

Why are these numbers so crazy now?
NFL cap went to $301.2M in 2026 and QB contracts got huge. Teams give massive guarantees, then when they cut guys all that prorated bonus/guaranteed money "accelerates" onto the cap. 3a2080ee

Tua’s case: $212.1M extension in 2024. Murray’s case: $230.5M contract signed in 2022 with $125.1M on books through 2028. 8717

Bottom line: Tua cost Miami $99.2M to go away. Kyler will cost Arizona ∼$54.7M total. Both are top-3 all time, but Tua is the record. d03f

Want me to break down how Arizona is spreading Kyler’s hit vs if they had cut him pre-June 1?

what do you think of : wild thing, I think I LOVE YOU, I WANNA KNOW FOR SURE! Great player, but has to prove he can do what Conner does in the trenches, basically change the defenses with inside power runs. Hate to jinx but seems we break every good high draft player early and then wait for them to get better and go to another team. Hope he breaks that mold. We have to move away from a qb centered offense, cause we don’t have a franchise qb. Will need bensen in the end to compete over a 17 game season in the nfcw. Must run more than pass or at least equal pass attempts. If we can win the division we can win it all. Can Mike do it without a Stafford? Yea, but gotta coach disciplined - and I don’t see that.
