I think the max fine for skipping this is a little over $100K. Probably not enough to deter JB. I’ve reached out to everyone I know and no negotiation participants are revealing much about demands and offers. What I hear is mostly already out there. JB wants starter money and a 2027 extension. I hear the Cards will only offer an extension that can be killed without penalty next offseason. They apparently have offered a little money, but nothing like average starting QB salary. The Cards seem willing to go forward without JB. The Cards aren’t saying it, but that only enhances their chance of a higher 2027 pick. 2027 picks are beiviewed as gold. Note the Rams, who rarely value picks, traded a 2028 first, not a 2027. Everyone is guarding those picks. I am hearing Beck looks good so far. If he keeps it up and JB doesn’t return Beck may start sooner than I expected. I hear he will definitely not start game one unless injury necessitates it.

I’ve always been curious, do teams actually enforce these penalties when players skip camp or are they waived when the player reports to practice?

Players mostly pay them; via check deduction. Occasionally they wave them but it’s not customary.

Rams traded their 2027 first rounder man

I can’t imagine monti is trying to tank this season- no way he would survive that. The more concerning thing is that monti might believe that he’s done enough to let this team win which is crazy

I think Monti sold Michael on a vision of tanking in year 1 after the fact. When Monti was hired Michael said “This team is not as broken as everyone thinks,” and then Monti proceeded to demolish everything.

He started over with a safety, tight end, and quarterback the owner didn’t trust.

All his bets crapped out. He is probably hoping to convince Michael to pay $125 million in guarantees for PJJ and Michael Wilson while Michael signs a $2 million check to Kyler Murray every week next season.

JMO, but both JB and Sweat will attend. Question is whether they will do any work.
Sweat isn’t vying for a new contract. He should absolutely be putting in work.

Brother they don’t do any real work at these. Have you not been paying attention for the past 10 years?
Whatever work they do do he should be participating in. Not sitting on the sideline ala Parsons all last off season and TC. Hes under contract and locked down. If he wants to sit out on the sidelines at a mandatory mini camp he should be fined.

This is way off.

Monti sold Michael on building the Cardinals for the "Long Term" and to have "Sustained Success".

Most of that early success hinged on Kyler truly becoming the guy. Michael had already gave Kyler a massive contract with guarantees that made him uncuttable and untradeable for at least 2-3 seasons. Everything hinged on Kyler getting healthy in year one. Then showing he could be the man in year 2 and then being the franchise QB for years to come.

That is why I said, prior to the 2025 season, that every Cardinal fan should be rooting for Kyler to succeed whether you like him or not. For if Kyler failed in 2025, it meant that the Cardinals would need to start over at the QB position which is a terrible spot for a NFL team to be in. With Jacoby looking so much more effective than Kyler in the same offense the answers became clear regarding Kyler and it was time to move on.

What is unfortunate is how snake bit this team became after the loss to the terrible Titans team last season. That and so many losses early in the season to last second field goals doomed Gannon. There was no way I thought Gannon would be fired last season but they way his defense would collapse in the 4th quarter sealed his fate.

This sounds perfectly reasonable. It’s not reasonable a billion-dollar organization stumbled their way into this situation, but this stance is what I would expect at this point from any team. Jacoby is not it, he’s a bridge at best.

It's "Voluntary" so there is that. Ideally you would want all of your players there even though it's optional. However it's still the players choice to attend or not. The irony of this is that when Monti was hired he emphasized that he only wanted "Team First" guys. Sweat always taking off the voluntary OTAs is walking a thin line with regards to that. But it's not Hopkins "I'm not going to practice" bad.

If Sweat is there doing everything next week when it's mandatory then I could care less.

Why is this more important to you than it is to the coaches and other players?

Huh? They all should be present and performing all tasks at a mandatory mini camp. What are you talking about?

sweat won't be handing the ball off to a rookie running back hundreds of times this season - won't be calling crucial game time audibles - won't be relying on 5 or 6 guys to protect him - won't even be learning a new playbook

it's brissett that's missing valuable time
