If he guaranteed 15 mil this season and then 7 next season, it would be the same as signing Dalvin Tomlinson and then cutting him the year after in terms of dead money. Has that been detrimental in any way to this season's operations?
i don't want to extend brissett period - not at this point in time - no problem with a pay bump this year but im not extending the length of the contract - if that hurts brissett's feelings he can ask for a trade

It seems a little crazy that we’ve gone from “Brissett is a top 5 backup QB and excellent mentor to a young QB” like three months ago to “cut him today he’s a distraction.”

He’s thrown no passes and had zero live reps in the interim. People just want to be mad.

I really don't understand the hostility towards Brissett. He is basically coming off his career year, towards the tail end of his career. This is basically his last chance to get a pay day.

I don't blame him one little bit.

He doesn't really have much leverage though because the team is bad, and it might even be in our best interest not to be good this year with our QB situation and the brutal schedule we are facing.

Bro extremely tough subtweet of Gannon, Petzing, and Drew Terrell.

Terrell was an Arizona native, Hamilton Husky, and former Stanford Cardinal. He must have been awful for Mike Willy to light him up like that.

Aha, so saying something positive about your current "boss" is extremely telling and can be interpreted to mean that your previous boss was awful!

Wilson had some nice praise for Terrell in November (4:40 mark).
Very strange that he would say nice things in public about his current boss.

Aha, so saying something positive about your current "boss" is utterly meaningless.

I disagree and don't see the benefit to this organization trying to play "hard ball" with him. There is no upside. Cut him or pay him.

Hey brother if you don’t see a difference between “I’m playing good because I trusted in my coach” and “it’s amazing coming to work every day for the first time in my career” and “this is the first time a coach has cared about me as a person” I don’t know what to tell you.

are we talking about the same thing?

are you saying you're good with extending brissett's contract if that's what brissett is demanding? because i'm not

not talking money - talking extension - a whole new contract committing us to jacoby brissett for the next few years? or even 2 years?

then yes we disagree big time vato - i keep saying we shouldn't extend brissett because i think we shouldn't extend brissett - nothing to do with money - idc about the money

If Brissett is signed to be a short-term starter this year and a veteran mentor next year is that bad? How?

For the fan base, it's all about optics. I for one don't mind him getting a raise. In totality when you look at the situation it's warranted. I just don't view it in the same lens as a Burrows, Jackson, Allen type of hold out. Give my man a few more coins, but don't pay him like we have no other options. This whole ordeal just makes me shake my head even more at this front office if I'm being honest.

we can probably get a 5th for my guy
They couldn't get a 5th for Kyler. They aren't getting a 5th for Brissett who is asking for an extension. If you aren't willing to eat 7 mil in dead money next year on an extension for him, no team is going to give you a 5th round pick. He either has value or not.

A lot of people are saying don't extend Brissett. If Brissett starts most if not all of the games in 2026, you still don't know what you have in Beck and what if Beck starts several games and bombs out. Now you go into 2027 with Beck and Minshew and a possible 2027 draft choice. Just structure the deal so it works for both sides. The QB situation is no better than it is now.

The Cards will know what they have in Beck because they’ve been training him for a year. If they’re not 100% sure Beck can develop into a franchise QB, you don’t pass on a QB prospect for that.

Come on now, you are smart enough to know they are two completely different situations. The Cardinals had to cut Kyler before his Roster bonus kicked in and other teams knew that. The Cardinals don't have to do anything with Brissett if they don't want to. The Cards hold all of the Cards in Jacoby's situation.
