He's old and injured. Unless he's really had a perfect recovery, I'm not sure his leadership is all that important, especially as a third string RB. I'm not calling him chopped liver, but still.

why would we get rid of benson - not gonna happen

Between Benson and Connor, someone is getting cut... I think it's going to be Benson. His contract is friendlier but they're also sitting on a butt load of cap space.

Connor is a short yardage grinder and I doubt they want to submit Love to those plays as a rookie.

Unless Connor hasn't healed well, I think Benson gets the axe.

Couldn't we use Allgeier for those type of plays instead?

Its a roster rebuild with a new sheriff in town. That said we'll argue all day but some changes had to be made obviously. I think it's Conner, Allgeier and Love. 4 RBs maybe but Benson is kind of a one trick pony for being so young.

I love the guy but you have to look at the roles now. Love is the starter, Conner is probably the short yardage or goalline guy. Allgier is the backup. the only role for Benson would be 3rd down like his rookie year except that Love is one of the better receiving RB's to come out in years so you don't want to take him off the field on 3rd down.

So unless injury Benson won't play much. 4th RB has to be able to play ST, Benson can return KO's but I don't see us asking a guy with his injury history to cover Kicks so he'll lose out to a guy who can play ST is my guess.
Algiers was brought in to take JC's job.
Same player. Different clock.

If Bensons knee is good, he, Love, and Algiere top the depth chart.
Conner likely gone by September...that's why they rearranged his money last month.

Maybe I'm naive but I seriously doubt the Cards had Conner up there introducing the picks after the first round but they now intend to cut him

Its a business... they all know that. He may not be gone this summer..but the clock is ticking.
Algeier is literally the exact same RB JC was 5 years ago...sans cancer.
He may not be as tough as JC,..but the grind and pound, plodding, get the tough yards...turn 3 yards into 5...thats exactly who they are.
One backs up the other so the offense does not have to change...you change it up by playing Lightening instead of Thunder...thats Love,..and Benson if he stays healthy...most coaches want one of each...
we have two Thunders...but one is over 30, when RB's traditionally lose a step or two and fall off a cliff..

we sorta have two lightnings...but Benson has the added value of also being a bigger back.so he is kinda a tweener...big but fast.
so a RB room of Love, Benson, Algier... gives us lightning, Thunder,...and a Tweener that can do both.
But JC is a redundant Thunder...
do you keep him on as a backup as a sign of respect for his past?? Or do you let him go find a team where he can get reps...instead of being the third or fourth guy here?
Because unless he pulls off a miracle,...he wont be more productive than the other three....so he wont be starting.
his only hope for reps is that Algeier goes down,...because they share the same role.

Isn’t Love pretty good in the slot? This team needs two quality runners, especially with Kyler gone. Conner’s days are numbered. Anything he gives this year is a bonus.
Yes, he’d be very good. He’s to agile to press. He has exceptional hands plus tons of speed. Finally he’d generate exceptional YAC.

Conner and Algier are the same guy for me. If the draft was in Tampa Bay do you think Conner would be there. He was there only because of his Pittsburgh ties. Still a candidate to be cut.
