Only thing I'd maybe consider doing is guaranteeing more of the contract. They don't need to go wasting more money on subpar players. He's a starter in name only, not in talent, and there's a good chance that that doesn't even last the season. Worse case you cut him now and run with Minshew and whoever they get. It's not going to make a difference on how this season is going to play out. We're drafting near or at the top other the 2027 draft either way.

They currently have 40 mil in cap space...what is more important that they are going to spend it on?

Let it roll over to next season if they can't bring in anyone good in with it. They need to stop wasting money on garbage. It's why they're the Cards. You don't see good teams throwing money away.

another common Lossenfort B L U N D E R

Why you wouldn't have bumped his salary for 2026, guaranteed it, and given him a 2027 sweetener the moment you cut Murray is wild.
This takes common sense, foresight, and actually knowing what you're doing.

MO and the Cardinals don't possess any of these things.

They have a new HC, need to win games, and may draft a QB who only started 1 year in college as a QB. It seems pretty important.

Honestly, this all seems like a lot of hand wringing from a bunch of people who absolutely think Brissett sucks….

He was 1-11 last season. I'm sure you understand management means having results. I'm absolutely sure Jacoby could definitely run a company. Straight into the ground.
Yeah!! Screw JB...he let down over 52 other players, including practice squad guys moved up into starting roles and got his coach fired.

Come on guys...it's a team sport. Please explain to me how JB going 1-11 is all his fault. The man wants a little pay increase in line with his upcoming role.

If he sucks, cut him. The point is his request is not unreasonable and this is a incompetent way to start off a new regime. EDIT...correction. to start off a new HC. same old Lossenfort at the helm.

It's funny but how many people on this board would take a greater role with their company, which increases responsibilities, risks to personal health, and role without asking for a corresponding pay increase?

Especially after he already did that for 75% of the season last year without an increase in pay.
Numerous times during my career I was given additional responsibilities when jobs where combined or jobs were eliminated. Never got a raise.

We don't think Brissett sucks we know he does.

Signing 2 dudes to play QB that have combined for like 3 wins in the last 3 years is so Cardinals.

At this point who cares what the Cards do? They have royally fudged themselves for 2026-2207 season.

This is just one more proof point that shows that they are hillbillies and should be banned from running anhything.

Running with Brissett or not isn't going to change that. The team is bottom of the league this year either way. He's worth what, maybe one more game than Minshew or the rook. So we'll be 2-15 instead of 1-16. It's time to start making correct decisions. I know that's a big ask though for this front office and owner.

He was good enough that they want to keep him in the job of starting QB apparently.
Don't mean to be so cynical but wasn't there an article about how the Cardinals haven't officially named a starter yet?

Cards would've been better off keeping Kyler for another year than spending money on dead cap and giving Jacoby a raise.

Furthermore I can't wait for the draft to begin so we don't contrast apples with more apples at this point

Like it or not if Brissett is going to be the starter, he should get a bump in pay. Front load an extension so if the team decides to move on from him in 2027, it will be cap friendly. Even if they draft Simpson, you don't want him starting behind this Oline and getting his brains beat out. Besides with his limited starts in college he is almost certainly not ready to play from the get go.
It's why naming neither as a starter brilliant. Why would we do so before the draft when neither QB is the QBoF?

Wait until the last preseason game to name one. (assuming we don't draft a QB)

I dare Jacoby to sit out. He doesn't have any negotiating power at all here.

I'm honestly shocked at how mad some people are about this. Throwing him a bit of extra money when he's now likely going to have to stand in for the majority of a long season getting hit isn't a bad thing at all.

As was said, his role is being elevated. He's at risk of major injury. I'd also want more money to have to deal with this ****show for another year of my life.

If my job said "this is going to be a rough year with a skeleton crew and new leadership, we're going to need you to step up and work longer and harder," my answer would be "**** you, pay me." (I'd probably just leave in the first place, but that's not really doable in the NFL if you want to work again.)

I'm fine if Brissett holds out and goes somewhere else. I'd rather see someone new at quarterback.

Exactly. If they actually cave and give this guy more money it will be ridiculous. Not sure if they can look even more stupid than they already do but this would be a good start

It happens WAY more often that you think. Employers have most of the power these days. Most people can't afford to 'shop around' looking for a new job. If they lose their job, their entire family is screwed...

Count me into that group. Although him sucking this year works for me. I just hope they don't give him another year on his contract so we can be done with him after this year.

No, but it is a different role than they signed him for so he is asking for more. I could absolutely be wrong, but I don't think Brissett is asking for a huge dollar amount. He is 30+ and took a ton of hits last year. I don't think he is being unreasonable until further info shows he is.
Especially fo a job you are one incident away from a potentially lifelong physical disability.
