There are lots of players that are overpaid - that doesn't seem sufficient to me to pay a career backup starter money. If he wants to sit out, let him.
Other salaries are the basis for negotiations. Not saying AZ should pay it but that is probably the comp. 2026 salary (not the entire Willis contract) and then wanting something when the Cardinals dump him in 2027.

They aren't going to pay him like a starter, then draft a starting QB in the first three rounds of the draft. He'll get a bump in pay if we don't draft a QB, and he'll get traded if we do select a QB.

perhaps a naive and/or idiotic question. Can't we offer him a contract that incentivizes games started? If he earns and keeps his starter role, he gets a wad of cash. Otherwise he keeps backup money.

Granted, this org would pull him right before his final start to earn the extra money, but...

On second thought, maybe theres a bonus for each game started.

What do I know?

If you brought him in as insurance but are now asking him to be starter? He deserves more cash. I wouldn't overpay the dude or anything but the Cards sound like they are going to ask him to be much more. I think getting paid to do more is reasonable. Again, not saying he should get typical starting QB money.

Unfortunately, but hope springs eternal.
not with this team.

yes, I have gone back to full darksider mode after keeping so many awful coaches from the previous regime and doing next to nothing in FA, as usual and now looking at a situation where... Jacoby Brissett is making us look like fools.

On how many teams would Brissett be starting? It's not like he is going to save the team next year. Did his performance last year earn him a new contract?

Brissett nothing more than a journeyman backup QB. Who's going to trade for him? Not too smart Jacoby when you already have your foot in the door.
Maybe Indy as insurance in case Jones isn't ready or the Jets. That is probably it as this point.

Only the Cardinals can do that to themselves, but at least I get to watch all their games on local television. As painful as that might be, it's something.

Like it or not if Brissett is going to be the starter, he should get a bump in pay. Front load an extension so if the team decides to move on from him in 2027, it will be cap friendly. Even if they draft Simpson, you don't want him starting behind this Oline and getting his brains beat out. Besides with his limited starts in college he is almost certainly not ready to play from the get go.
