Just trying to get a broader sense of what people think about various scenarios.
im with you harry - i don't think it's a complete tank job - they're definitely not gearing up for a playoff run but why would they in this division this year?

i think our first draft selection will give us more insight as to the cardinals intentions - if we trade back we're most definitely thinking 2027 but monti isn't stripping the team down far as i can tell - got rid of some dead weight sure but signing seumalo was huge for us imo

i think of this more as an assessment year for lafleur - rallis included - we were well on our way to becoming functional then last year happened - question is why did last year happen - how did our defense get worse after giving it more talent - what does our offense look like without having to run 10 runningbacks (5 we never heard of)

there wasn't a chance in hell for us this year regardless - our whole division made the playoffs lol same goes for this year because we don't have a qb to compete but atleast we moved on from kyler - it's the little things right

me personally - i'll be bummed if we don't draft love - we have a rare opportunity here like we did with with will anderson but i digress and im not very confident after the rbs we just signed/resigned

They don't really have a choice. It's a meh draft, there are no good QB options and the FA class is devoid of top talent.

Which is why I would have kept JG for another year instead of dumping Mike into a sub optimal situation.
Normally, I agree with you. But, not in this case. I initially liked JG, or at least was OK with him, as a first time coach, but not after the 3rd year showing.

TBF, the combines conducted by Richardson and Simpson were very different in terms of on-field work. Simpson isn't being elevated because of his athletic testing.
But he is for throwing in shorts.

Dude was benched in his final game because he was horrible. But let’s draft him because reasons.

The most frustrating thing for me is hearing people try to predict when you can compete and win games. You can't. Just try to win games and the competing will happen as a by-product of that.

That might be true, but you had pointed out Ricahrdson's combine performance as an example of a positive impact that didn't translate. My point is that Richardson's combine performance was athletic based and Simpson's was not which makes it a poor example.

Simpson interviewing and throwing the football is a little more relevant to the core abilities of a QB. How much it impacts his draft status has more to do with how you view his year at Alabama. Some people view it that Simpson did the most with least. Others say he did poorly in a vacuum.

While the Cardinals are "thinking 2027" maybe we should all think about skipping going to all home games in 2026.

Maybe they wont be so cavalier about how they address their upcoming season.

You take a year off, we take a year off.

The marginal difference between the two of them on grade is not very big. They’re both top five picks. Given that we signed a running back in free agency and brought back Connor there’s no way we’re gonna take Love. The choice seemingly is between Bailey/Reese or the offensive tackle. If those are the options, I’d rather have Bailey.
Thats kinda my point at 3 you damned near gotta have bona fide as posible star impact kind of player and yes I also agree with you on Bailey or Love "now if there was a Joe Thomas, Boselli, Munoz lineman available then Hell yes grab him but there just isnt one"

I think the Cardinals think that the path to winning is by losing which is hilarious because I feel like they have tried that for the past 50 years and have not been consistently successful, ever..

i looked it up and was surprised to find out 8 different new nfl head coaches have gone to the superbowl in their first year - i was like wow - teams really can buy into a new system/vibe and be successful

How often has that happened in the past 10-20 years though? Do you mean rookie head coaches? That doesn’t feel right…

If your team is still so bad 4 years into a rebuild that tanking is even an option, why is the GM even still around?

I don’t want to speak for @BritCard but I think the point is that Ossenfort is still here, he’s clearly in a superior position to LeFleur, and we’re likely stuck with Monti for another 3-5 years.

Worst-case scenario Monti gets fired after this season and you have a head coach/GM misalignment because the boss didn’t get to pick his guy.

Much worster-case scenario is Monti and LeFleur make it through this season, draft a QB next season, and then Monti gets fired. Then you have GM-HC-QB misalignment (we call this the full Bears).

Monti has performed like a below-average GM to this point. The results speak for themselves. Could he be the worst GM in the NFL? We’ll see in the next year.

Simpsons stock rose do to his combine performance.

I have no idea what you are arguing.

“Did the most with least”

Dude went to Alabama and crap the bed. On what planet is Alabama football bereft of talent.

Dear lord

I don't think his stock "rose" because of his combine throwing. It either reinforced what teams felt was a positive or a negative. His stock my have risen because of his interviews with teams which most people would say is more important than on-field work. If teams had concerns about his play last year or his overall inexperience, that is where those would have been addressed.

Very different from ARich (in my opinion).

This is nothing to do with liking JG or not. It's about letting him handle the steaming pile of crap that will be 2026 and then moving on, instead of putting it on a new HC.

This but also, why stick your new HC with a known stealing pile of crap? They knew they were moving on from Kyler, they knew what the QB market looked like. I just don't know what the FO saw as the upside here. What do they expect Mike to do? And if they want to talk for a 2027 QB that's best done with JG.

I like Mike but it also severely limits your HC search options because they too can see the steaming pile of crap ahead.

The only available upside for MLF is he has a losing season but somehow gets 7 wins.
