The media fascination with a guy who was a 5th round draft choice is mind boggling. It's like no one can admit they knob slobbed the kid for so long and that they shouldn't have. Any other 5th round QB not getting 1st team reps would be a giant nothing burger. Stop writing about him, let him focus, and see if he can become anything!
His dad is friends with everyone big in NFL media and is the kind of guy you want to be friends with. Deon was publicly calling out media personalities who were ranking Shedeur outside of the top 15. Now its just a story that will get clicks.

But that's my point. NOBODY had him falling that far, but because he did, that means 32 NFL teams believe that's his value. So EVERY media outlet was wrong. Say that, reconcile the fact that your clickbait reporting was a frenzy of horsepucky, and treat him as the league treats him from this day forward. They are doing the kid ZERO favors treating him otherwise.
But it isn't just the media. Some NFL execs didn't expect him to fall that far either.

Disagree all you want K9, but the reports are out there.

Even Sean Peyton was shocked and publicly stated as much.

Most of the media fascination is because he is a 5th round choice and absolutely nobody had him falling that far. Plus throw in who his dad is and it's no wonder.
He could have gone undrafted, and a media circus would follow him around simply because of who his father is. It's not too difficult to figure out. Then when he is cocky and brash and telling people he is going to be legendary...

I listened to someone explain QB drafting.

Obviously guys that you feel are starter caliber, you take round one and maybe round two.

After that it's all about fit and culture. So with Shedeur and all his negatives, if he doesn't go round one, he's going later. Under that lens, it makes a lot of sense that he went round five

Saw some of this 2nd half he was terrible. This was the Sanders we saw in college he held the ball so long. When I looked he had been sacked 5 times the other 2 guys I think once. He is trying to force the ball downfield but he kept backing up. There's one play where he literally stood there with a pass rusher inches away holding the ball backing up and got sacked for a huge loss. The announcer immediately said that's one of those plays where you have to just throw the ball away that's his biggest issue they've been on him about all camp, stop taking these huge losses.

It's a philosophical thing. He will get past it. But it will probably take a couple years

Shedeur Sanders' NFL debut was historically bad, and despite brutal circumstances, there were deeper concerns

It was one of the worst quarterback debuts in recent memory (minimum 15 passes for the notes below):

  • Sanders had the most inefficient NFL debut (-0.80 EPA per play) by a quarterback since Ian Book in 2021 (Book's only career start).
  • Sanders averaged the fewest yards per dropback (1.7) in an NFL debut since Ryan Lindley in 2012.
  • Sanders averaged the fewest yards per attempt (2.9) in an NFL debut since Quincy Carter in 2001.
  • Sanders had the lowest completion rate (25%) in an NFL debut in 41 years (1984 Scott Stankavage).

I do have to say this, given he was the backup going into the game if it's true what he said that he'd never thrown a pass to Jerry Jeudy all year before the game that's bizarre? I mean I know starters get the most reps and backups get with backups but 10 games in he's never had a single throw to Jeudy in practice?

That can't be true, if it is just insane and points to why he was so bad if he had absolutely no connection with any of the guys he was playing with. He had a couple of throws dropped but for the most part he was just terrible. ANd he was only sacked twice so it wasn't like he was under massive pressure which was his issue in college, bad OL and held the ball way too long
