we're never going to have a great qb in his prime - it's just not in the cards - we suck at drafting great qbs and we don't have the stones to trade for one - regardless we're riding with kyler for the immediate future - forgetaboutbrissett

if we do plan to trade kyler we want real return - not 3rd round draft picks so we have to sell kyler - we have to show what kyler's still good at

petzing is on the hot seat - this is what happens when a defensive head coach gets roasted for an impotent offense - and definitely when fans start questioning a new gm but would a new oc mean night and day or simply more of the same

do we want to see kyler air it out? can we be a pass first team? sounds like that's what our o-line is inexplicably good at this year - idfk - that's how you make kyler a top 10 qb tho

Kyler was drafted to be a 2-way threat and he’s just not. Kyler and Lamar became full time starters the same season and Lamar has over 3,000 more rushing yards on just under 500 more attempts. Kyler doesn’t want to run and isn’t built for contact which means we have a 5’10” pocket passer that can’t hang tough in the pocket. You are who you are at this point. Guys like Allen, Lamar and Mayfield are having success on their 2nd and 3rd different play callers.

There's a continuum between Lamar Jackson and Sam Darnold. Murray adds value with his running ability, just not as much as we'd hoped or would like.

He runs like Russell Wilson where he’ll slip out the side door and pick up a first down. It’s gotta make you nuts as a defender.

But Russ also liked to yeet it downfield and see if someone would come up with it. Russ averaged 7.7 YPA.

Kyler averages 5.7. OOF

I'd argue that what he adds in his ability to run we lose in passing from him bailing when he doesn't need to.

He's only gone over 600 yards rushing once. We've surely lost at least 500 yards every season from missed passing opportunities that a pocket passing traditional QB would have made. Not to mention the uncertainty it puts on the O line and receivers never knowing where Kyler is.

Kurt Warner said he thinks that’s what happened on that first pick. Kyler was beginning to scramble and Marv thought he needed to break outside. It looks like Marv quit on the play, which is possible, but it’s more likely he was confused which way to go.

Kyler was a Vick-level runner in college but you can get away with that at his size in the big-12. That’s just poor evaluation by us.
Previous comments of mine in the Kyler draft thread back this up, but Kyler was always an outlier in multiple ways. He had very few starts in college. He was an outlier in size. He wasn't a timing/rhythm QB. He had limited/poor performances when he wasn't the favorite. In some ways, he should have never been drafted #1 overall but that happens with QBs because it is such a priority position. Ultimately, he has been a pretty average selection at #1. He hasn't been the bust that many #1 overall QBs are but he has also not been near the top either. It's a bummer, but it wasn't the worst pick in hindsight.

Kyler just has a weird mindset. He just isn't about being "the guy". He complains about a lot of different things. He also just runs the play that is called. He isn't aggressive. He says winning is the most important thing.

At least this is what he has shown publicly.

It's super weird how you want to believe that one but not their previous 2 or last season. I', pretty sure week 1 looked similar but I can't find it.

Another self own.
