Watched this over the weekend. The two lead actresses are phenomenal. At 3 hours it probably could have used some more editing, but well worth the time investment regardless. Apparently this flick was pretty controversial when it was released because of how the sexual content was shot and presented, which I kinda get, but it's the human element and the powerful performances that carry the day. I can see why this was a darling at Cannes that year.

It felt like a bit of a slow burn at first as we learn about Adele the lead character as she ages out of adolescence and into adult relationships. But as the story sets in and Emma comes into the picture, the pacing ramps up. There are a few scenes in particular that totally knock it out of the park, a scene in a cafe towards the end of the film in particular features some of the most powerful acting and dramatic cinema I can recall.

The plot doesn't go in a straight line. It curves around a bit and takes its time to unfold. Beautifully directed and well done IMO. In French with subtitles, so Americans beware.

That is not really the case. She is 15 when the movie starts, but not when the "love story" begins. But yes she is still in high school when they meet, so if close to 18 is a deal breaker for you don't watch.

Very, very French. Look up the French version of The Professional. Or is it only deleted scenes? Either way...yeah.
