I have really dwelled on this the last two days. We are two years away from contending. Hazen's awful drafting the last 4 years has this team in real trouble. Selling is the only way to cover for how bad the farm system is right now.

So thinking 2027...here is where we are:

C- Moreno (hurt all the time. Requires catching depth)
1B - None. Pavin is 29 and has just two years of team control and zero back up. Addressing this has to be a big part of the rebuild)
2B - Perdomo. Ketel Marte is 31 and has a 6 year contract. Perdomo has great range and a bad arm. He's just miscast as a SS. He would thrive at 2B. Trading Marte changes the entire compass of the franchise. You can get any prospect for Marte and more.
SS - Jordan Lawlar - His defense is only useful at short. You can't put his crap bat at 3rd.
3B - Gino Groover I guess. Like 1B, the cupboard is super bare. It's what happens when you only draft CF/SS for like 6 years. Overpaying Geno to resign for 3 years is the best outcome here.
LF: Ryan Waldschmidt. The only pick Hazen has made that I love and he's great. Excellent plate discipline who has some pop. Walks more than he strikes out. He should be up next year. He is why we move on from Lourdes. McCarthy has wet noodle power but he can man the position while Waldshmidt gets ready.
CF Alek Thomas - Just 25 and under contract for 3 more years. It's not optimal but Druw Jones sucks and will go down as the worst pick in franchise history. Slade Caldwell is just worse at everything Alek Thomas. Despite immense draft capital here, It's likely we just resign Thomas
RF - Corbin Carroll. Obvious stuff is obvious

Marte ain’t going anywhere… Agree though that Perdomo is average at best at SS…But it is what it is. Fingers crossed Gerry does work in the offseason to improve his defense.
Fingers also crossed Hazen can dump Lourdes for something halfway decent… likely will have to package him with others.
I am soooooo not sold on Lawler and am all but convinced he’s nothing more than an excellent AAA player. He simply can’t hit a MLB curve ball. Will he ever figure that out?

The Farm System is ranked middle of the pack by most ranking platforms. It wasn’t all that long ago when Hazen had built a Top 5 system. Farm systems always fluctuate, with depth and studs coming and going. Hazen is in rebuild/replenish mode with respect to the system. The recent draft was extremely solid and will likely serve an important step in the replenishing process.

Fingers crossed Gabby can find a way to stay healthier in the years ahead. Agree about First & Third base… we got nothing at present, but fingers crossed trading both Geno and Naylor will bring something back worthwhile!

Buster Olney also said the Red Sox do not want to include Jarren Duran in any package.

That ranking though is predominantly based on having Lawlar as a top prospect.

If he is the bust you think he is, then Caldwell and Waldschmidt are your only top 100 players.

You would have picked #6, #2, and #12 and not have a single MLB player out of it
