Congratulations Devin Booker! He will receive a two year, $145 million extension.

Devin Booker and Suns owner Mat Ishbia meet in Las Vegas to finalize the contract.

Not trading Devin bothers me more than giving him this money. Not trading him dooms us to mediocrity as our ceiling for many years, overpaying him just makes things a little tougher.

Trading Devin Booker was never a guarantee of success.

I will take the bird in the hand over two in the bush any day.

Yep as I said before we are building around him. At least they have a plan and are committed to it. Or they are still stupid, or both.

Normal circumstances and I'd agree, but these aren't normal circumstances. We'll probably win more games the next 5 years by keeping Devin than trading him but I'm convinced it will just increase the number of years it will take for us to have any real thoughts of contention. As it is, we just have to hope we get incredibly lucky on multiple draft picks just to be a decent team.

Think Beals contract is bad. Booker says hold my beer
crazy talk - i don't like the extension either but beal isn't top 10 in pts AND assists - maybe top 10 in missed games for max contract players? the two are no where near the same - much less book's being worse

Let's hope luck was with the Suns in the 2025 draft.

I really have the feeling the next four years are going to play out pretty much how the first four years of Booker's career with the Suns did. Minus having the annual high draft picks, of course.

"The Kentucky product has also developed into a high-end, low-mistake primary playmaker, joining Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Damian Lillard and Donovan Mitchell as one of just four NBA players over the last five seasons to use at least 30% of his team’s offensive possessions, dish assists on more than a quarter of his teammates’ baskets, and turn it over less than 12% of the time. Even in a down-by-his-standards 2024-25 campaign, Booker averaged 25.6 points and a career-high 7.1 assists per game on .589 true shooting — marks that put him in the company of Nikola Jokić, Luka Dončić and Jalen Brunson."

Numbers don't lie.

By the time he gets paid his $75 million per year you will see many players with max contract extension getting $100 million per year. He is just the first.
I don't know that they'll be getting that much right away but I agree with your point, many stars will join Devin in that salary range before long. And many of them will be overpaid too, it's just the NBA being the NBA.
