The Collin Gillespie Bandwagon Thread

Green has the handles and speed to drive and dish. He just has to be willing to dish sometimes.

Green will never be a distributor, never ever ever. I doubt anyone can find a player with his stats who became anything more than a scorer... and currently he is an extremely inefficient scorer.

If we have stretches where we leave him in charge of the offense we are going to have stretches of horrible offensive basketball.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe, we can transition him into a slash/shoot player, something useful, but he's currently an ISO player and an utterly terrible one at that, if we entrust him to run the offense we will just feed into his already awful tendencies.

We need to run. Remember when CP3 said they were going to do that and it lasted a week before he was slowly bringing the ball up and getting us into plays late in the shot clock? CP3 doesn't fit what the Suns say they want to do.

I'm wondering if he can play a Ty Jerome role here. Gillepsie is smaller than Jerome but they have similar skill sets on offense.

I don't recall any issues of him and the coaches regarding pace. He was an extension of Monty on the court and they saw their exits within weeks of each other.

He played in Golden State and San Antonio since then and has played quicker. It would be different than last time because he'd be on a minimum deal as a backup vs being the highest paid player on the team.

Having a PG who can provide a change of pace could be a good thing. Games need to slow down occasionally. Paul would be a steadying hand and mentor to Gillepsie and also help coach up guys like Maluach.

It's hard to imagine a better player than CP3 to help these guys evolve.

If he wants to come here for the minimum we're be flat out idiotic to reject it.

Don’t agree at all. Modern nba offense does not make the pg the center of the offense it’s based on ball movement by everyone.

Pretty much all the top teams from last year run through a primary ball handler, who initiates almost all the offensive sets. Only Boston and the Rockets don't play that way, and the Rockets offense was awful in the playoffs and Boston relied on Tatum and Brown to break down defenses most of the time.

Booker is probably the only good passer on the roster right now, we don't have shooters either. We have some lob threats and slashers now, but we don't have guys who can get them the ball in those spots.

Paul is also really good at making young bigs learn how to move around. He basically made DeAndre Jordan's career.

I am conflicted on Paul. On one hand, this roster is not built for a slow point guard. I want them to run. On the other hand, I think there is so much value in having a coach on the floor.

I am not arguing that he would come here. I have no idea what he thinks of the situation. I’m merely stating why I would be interested in bringing him back.

And yeah, he was traded to try to upgrade a team the front office thought was a contender. His drop off was material then. Again, I’m not signing him to make us better as a team. I’m signing him to mentor the young guys and get them to be professionals on a quicker timeframe. Different goals.

I really don't get the CP3 pushback... he'd be here on a minimum contract, he was still a good player last year, we don't have anything that resembles an NBA caliber starting point guard.

I see zero reason to not sign him. He wouldn't be blocking anyone from playing time.

Green and Booker have had simnilar background. Then I read Ott had two combo guards recently playing in front of two bigs. Sounds like Phoenix is trying to recreate the Cleveland scenario.

I don’t think either Booker or green are the caliber lead guard as Darius garland. Now mind you, I’m not saying garland is a better PLAYER than Booker. I’m saying as lead guard. Garlands skills are closer to a pg than bookers or greens.

He pushed Green out of that PG role. I just see that Ott has mentioned Green and Booker on the floor at the same time. I think that means you are looking at your starting guards right there. You can't have Collin, Green, and Booker out there. That's too small.

I agree with yiu, I just wouldn’t equate anyone in that tandem to Ott’s experience with garland in Cleveland.

If I had to do it with these two both Book and Green would run the break. Whoever gets the outlet runs it. Then I would design half court sets with both players running sets. Probably specific plays designed for each one. It would switch constantly during the game.

On defense Green is quicker and more athletic than Book so he guards the smaller faster point guards.

Not saying I prefer this, or like it, but that would be how to approach it.

Will be interesting to see how Fleming develops. Will he get the start at PF after a while? Are Brooks (ugh) and Dunn + our SG's good enough to defend and rebound or will we be too small? If Dunn don't start at SF because of Brooks then who are our forwards from the start of the season? I also think we'll go with Book, Green, Dunn, Brooks and Williams. Then sub in O'Neale, Maluach, Gillespie, Fleming, Allen.
