Brea pick almost sounds like we made this pick for someone else. I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't on our roster.

Scouting Report:

Koby Brea, G, Kentucky

Strengths

Shooting: Lethal shooter who made 43.4% of his 3s on a high volume of 4.9 per game over five college seasons. He has NBA range with a quick release, plus the footwork to shoot off movement actions.

Passing: In no way is he a primary creator, but he has an intelligent floor game. He keeps the ball moving and can make some confident bounce passes through traffic, so there’s some flare to him, too.

Size: At 6-foot-7, if he keeps getting stronger and maximizes his athleticism, he could become a non-target on the defensive end.

Concerns

Athleticism: Unless he has a lot of space, he’s a below-the-rim player. He made only 43.8% of his layups in the half court, per Synergy. He also lacks a quick first step or burst off the dribble, which limits him when attacking closeouts to only basic pull-ups.

Defense: He lacks quickness moving laterally, doesn’t generate many steals and blocks, and has quite a lean frame despite his age.

Brea has a serious 3 point game. Quick release, he's got the step backs, looks good coming off screens.

Liking what I am seeing.

Yup. This kid is purely a taller shooter. There’s a place for those guys in the league.

I can't remember who said it, but he's got an NBA level skill already in shooting, which will always be needed. Hopefully he can shore up enough of the rest of his game where he's not just a one-dimensional player.

We went into this draft with two crappy picks. Now after the moves we made and the draft we potentially have 3 rotation players. This draft was a shocker.

I can't help but wonder if the Suns had anyone else in mind when they moved up to draft Koby Brea.

Gambo said Proctor was on their board. So it looks like it was between Brea and Proctor. So, I have to wonder what they liked about Brea over Proctor. My guess is the 3 point shooting. Proctor was said not to be great at any one thing and more of a utility guy.
