Trading for a guy who isn't signed beyond the season isn't smart to begin with. This just makes it worse.
Contract is part of the trading compensation tho. Would you rather trade higher draft picks for for a player that's signed for two years? Just trying to understand your logic here.

He's a nobody. I'd rather have just signed a street free agent than wasted more draft capital.

So it's cool to trade for a guy who isn't playing because there are odds he can re-sign next season? Hmm. How will we know he has "worked out?" How much do you offer a player in such a situation? Seems far from optimal to me.

If he leaves it's probably a comp pick wash.
