F You Money?

What amount of money would it take for you to, without a thought, walk in to your employer and quit on the spot to retire/pursue your passions?

With my last job, $100. I hated it there at the end.

For my new job I'm liking it right now and I do something I enjoy doing (programming) so it might end up being a 2 tier thing. If I got like $1-2m I'd probably talk to them about going part time. To fully quit I'm thinking like $5m. I never really calculated it out though. That seems like ballpark though on what it would take if I invested it and then pulled money to maintain current lifestyle given my age.

A couple mil would do get me to not work anymore for sure.

However, I'd probably need double that to truly follow passions. I would be a professional poker player, so I would need enough money where I could deal with variance.

Anywhere in the 6 figures.. then it's enough to move ya along through the ups and downs of starting your new passion. Then, the money will follow.

This is my mindset at least with my new venture.

A million, probably. I could live off that that interest alone. If medical got bad, I’d get a job.

I e never sat down and calculated it, but, it would be substancial. I don't hate my job by any means but it would be nice to spend life exploring curiosities, travelling and doing good for others vs just the normal work and support people.

I have 6 kids technically, so, it's not just about me. I'd need to support my lifestyle AND be able to set them up with the springboards needed to be successful.

With a milli sitting in the bank, I believe I could do just fine however I believe it would take several million and some careful planning before I would just go awol completely.

Because of the uncertainties on insurance I would say 1 million. With what we already have that's enough.

My thought would be 4-5 million. This would allow me to pay off my house and do some remodeling. It would also allow me to buy a property with some land up north. I'd have enough to help out close family and still have 2+ million to generate 6 figures in income every year without touching principal.

OK that changes it I thought the question was just for me and in my case my GF. if we're including family etc yes more like 4-5 million.

Also just depends on what people deem as F you money. Some poeple are okay with getting by, some want to be real comfortable, etc.

I get enough out of my job that I'd keep doing it, for a few years, even if I had infinite money. We're on academic years and I'd probably go through Spring 2024, i.e. two more full years after this one. To do that comfortably, I'd need about $3 million more.

I love my job. I’m union so I can pretty much quit a bad situation anytime I want and pick up at another company making the same if not more.

But for me to walk away I’d say in the range of 5-10 million.

9:30 AM - Eat a small albeit healthy breakfast
10:00 - Go for walk or something
12:00 Noon - 1:00 PM Maybe do a crossword puzzle?
1:30 PM - Have a light lunch
2:00 PM - 5:30 PM - Shop, work around house, etc
6:00 PM - Dinner
7:00 PM - Clean up dinner
7:30 PM - Start watching a game or something
8:00 PM - walk the dog
8:30 PM - finish watching game or something
10:30 PM - start to get tired
11:00 PM - start to get ready for bed
11:30 PM - Bedtime

Now you're getting into "buy, borrow, die" territory. I'm dipping my toes into that strategy, but don't have quite that large of a net worth yet to go full boar.
