It's possible but he would have to be pretty good and outplay Payne. I think depth at that position has to be secondary or it doesn't really help us next year.
We could use a bigger guard/wing who can create. Beyond book we don’t have another one of those. A maxey or Mann type player.

True but even that is secondary to the Suns getting bigger and tougher inside no? I mean I don't think having another wing was the difference in the Bucks series.

Unless the 29 is a throw in on a deal, we’re not getting a big with that pick. Or at least one that will make a difference in year one.

Indeed. But there are several mature guards who might be available who can be a secondary facilitator off the bench when Paul and Booker have to sit, a couple of whom might even have a shot of being a point guard of the future.

Having another wing who could create their own shot could have made a difference. That Milwaukee team could have been outscored despite the size difference.

a title team really needs more than two playmakers. If we lose Payne, that’s all we got. That ain’t enough.

What we have in the FC isn't enough either. Saric won't be back next season the rest of our FC players haven't done much. I think it's easier to get a wing than it is a legit FC player.

Depth requires that they contribute. No way a #29 gives you any depth likely this year or next if they even stay on the team.

The players below played for the Lakers now or in the not too distant past. Note where they were drafted.

I'm guessing I missed a bunch:

Talen Horton-Tucker #46
Kyle Kuzma #27
Alex Caruso, UDFA,
Montrezl Harrell #32,
Wesley Matthews UDFA
Jordan Clarkson #46

Anecdotal. The overall statistics lie because you found some players in the 20% that stick from the second round? I don't get what you are trying to say. Also, not every team's scouting department is created equal. Let me repeat again. I am not saying it's impossible but highly unlikely that we find a player at #29 that contributes over the next couple years let alone stays in the NBA after 5. The team is in win now mode. Not win a couple years when that player actually adds depth to your bench.

The Lakers and other teams are not standing pat. The Suns have to be aggressive if we want to return to the finals. Do you think if the Lakers get Westbrook they are going to look at our #29 draft pick and go....wow....that team just got better and deeper?!?!

oooh the Lakers bench well now I’m convinced. Bruh Lebron James and Anthony Davis are why the Lakers win not because there so deep and play team ball.

Anecdotal. The overall statistics don't lie about draft picks (especially in the second round) and not every team's scouting department is created equal. Because some teams are bad at finding late round talent doesn't mean other teams are.

That's why overall stats does not necessarily apply for individual teams. It's a general percentage.

The Suns might even be worse at finding late round talent than the percentages you give.

However, if the Suns draft #29 and keep the pick it does not necessarily mean they are standing pat. This is a deep draft where the Suns might find more talent late in the draft than usual. For example, finding a third point guard is not unrealistic.

That's what I said. Not all teams are created equal. However, overall stats apply to MOST picks regardless of team. The numbers make it clear your likelihood of finding certain players after a certain point in the draft. You are right they absolutely could find help at that pick. I am not saying differently. However, most teams drafting that late draft projects and how many times do we have to hear the team say it's going to take time for later picks? That's typical of late 1st round and second round picks. I give the Suns more credit. I don't think they are convinced #29 pushes us over the top in terms of depth on the bench. If they can't work out FA signings or trades I am sure they hoping though. I am too.

Which is sad, considering that this used to be a strength of the Suns (see, e.g., Jeff Hornacek, Steve Kerr, Cedric Ceballos, Michael Finley, Stephen Jackson, Leandro Barbosa, Goran Dragic).

If the Suns can get a rotation player for #29 then its a no brainer to trade it but odds are that won't happen since the Suns are capped out and can't take on a bad or sizable contract, which is what another team would try to push for a late round pick.

The Suns should focus on getting a piece that can work for them, if another team happens to value that player also and will part with something that can help is now then great but I don't see it happening. They need to focus on adding the best piece possible for them with it.

Averages may not apply to individual basketball players or basketball teams... it's what they are averages.

A lot of Suns fans remember those days so we know it can be done. Suns need to commit to scouting.

May not but the vast majority do. Which is why I said MOST. Averages don't mean they are not valid. You are talking about exceptions which I mentioned earlier. There are always exceptions but by definition you are not likely one of them. Hoping you are an exception is like playing slots.

I will take an 80-92% return rate.

I meant playing slots to win the jackpot. There is a reason they call them one armed bandits and it's the most profitable for the house. Casinos make between 80,000 to 100,000 per slot machine. The players are the house. Not the teams. If your idea is getting 80 cents to 92 cents back for every dollar you commit as being a good payout? I am not gambling with you.

Slot machines are meant for entertainment, not much else unless you are the casino.

Ouch. If you really feel the need to burn through some money, I'd be more than willing to waste some of it for you. Sure, I won't be as effective of a money suck as a slot machine is but I'll give it my best shot.:)

The problem is you won't give me any return on my money.

You would just take it and have fun... not fair. LMAO

Sort of like the NBA which is a game. Sorry just messing with you and giving you hard time because you confused payout with ROI or ROR. Your net would be negative if that was the case. I hope the Suns don't operate that way or we won't have a team for long. :D

Of course. But if the better player is the wing, you gotta take the wing - particularly at the of the first round. Best talent available.
