How many flags did PP draw last week? 4 at least. Bottom line he is no longer a shut down corner (assuming he ever was). Teams no longer avoid throwing his direction, but now prefer to throw his way knowing he can't cover anyone and even if he does he is likely to draw a penalty. I hope this is the last year we have to watch this overrated prima dona who is only a legend in his own mind.

Peterson was elite...was...4 years ago. He has experienced a precipitous decline and it appears the trend will continue. Is he better than 1/2 the corners in the league? Sure. The problem is he is going to want elite money based on reputation--one he no longer deserves--and it is not worth it, IMO. He needs to be a number 2 corner. The writing has been on the wall for a while and the team should've sold high on him.

I wonder how established his wife is in Arizona. That could be a factor keeping him here at a reasonable discount. PP is not the same player 4 years ago, but if we added some younger talent, he can be serviceable.

P2 was pretty steamed on his podcast about calls as expected. He has been pushing for extra official all season. I understand his play has dropped off but think his leadership has been vital this season. The man is blood thirsty to make playoffs.

Good lord. It's hard as hell to cover anyone now in this league, just looking at a guy can draw a flag. I think Peterson was 50/50 on the penalties and did get screwed over one for sure. This is crap, we win a game and people want to reserve a post of Peterson that they want him gone, really? Hey, I am not going to break the bank for him to keep him here next season if it was my choice but he's still a good CB but no longer elite... and you damn right for a majority of his career he was elite (Hall of Fame elite) and you have no idea what a prima dona is being spoiled as a Cardinal fan with Larry Legend setting the bar :)

for all the complaining

who would sign up for drafting a corner in next years draft with all of PPs attributes: great cover guy, great ball skills, but suspect tackler

i would in a second

Peterson is not just a "suspect tackler" - he is a total wuss who runs AWAY from plays to avoid having to tackle. He is a huge detriment to the team in run support and stopping screens. I would never draft another soft corner who is afraid to tackle.

I think Patrick would be willing to take a slight paycut to stay here. He’s older and no longer recognized as elite (no pro bowl last two years). Obviously salary inflation is a thing, so only a slight cut would be fair imo.

3/40/30 seems like it could work?

So you would not have drafted Peterson or Deon Sanders... whatever, and I think the proverbial team you are imagining left their leather helmets in their lockers

there is NO comparison between Deion and Peterson. Deion was a true shutdown CB AND a playmaker who racked up INTs and PDs and was a great return man throughout his career as opppsed to just his rookie season for Peterson returning punts.

that said, I’d take a Peterson level CB high again. When he was in his prime, he was a very good to great corner and those don’t grow on trees.

I might draft one but I'm not going to keep him when his coverage declines below league average and he's completely unwilling to help his team in any other facet of the game.

yet his teammates/coaches and players around the league seem to love him. That’s so odd. Lol.

if your expecting your corner to come lay the wood then idk.

It's a different game man. There was a lot more contact allowed by DBs back when Deion was locking down receivers.

One of the stats that truly exemplifies just that is how despite there being less pass attempts on average in the 90s QBs still threw more interceptions than they do now. Reason being because DBs were draped all over their receivers and thus it was harder to actually find open receivers. There is a reason why nearly all of the all time interception leaders played mostly prior to 2005-2007 or so.

CB literally train with tennis balls taped to the palm of there hands now so they don’t learn to grab. They teach them not to be physical.

I love when people have to go to extremes to make their argument. No is complaining that Peterson doesn’t blow people up or “lay the wood.” Basic taking on a block, making a tackle, or in the case of hurts TD, not being blocked by a hand.

when the guy I quoted said he was “ a wuss who is a detriment to the team”

I would say that’s going to the extreme but that’s just me

Lol, so he was voted to the all decade team and will be in the hall of fame. I thought 3 of the 4 penalties against him were very bad calls. And he is still one the of the top cbs in the NFL. Anyway keep ranting if it makes you feel better

There is no cb in the draft anywhere near that caliber. Next year derek stingley could be. You can't compare Deon to peterson because the rules were so different. You can't touch wrs anymore and nfl teams throw the ball 59 times a game.

Joe Montana would throw around 460 attempts in a 16 game season. Drew Brees throws it about 670 attempts per season. Add in thr aggregious rules that don't let cbs breath on wrs today and it just not the same game that deion played.

If that’s the case then maybe the people lauding Peterson should just keep Deion out of the conversation in the first place.

He is blood thirsty to make the playoffs as you said but he's lost a step for sure. I watch younger WR's run right past him almost every Sunday. He makes his share of plays but no longer has that closing speed to break on the ball. He needs to be a #2 CB. Unfortunately for us he's the best we have right now. We need to use our 1st round pick in 2021 on the best CB available or make a trade up for one imo.

There was also a lot more contact allowed back then from Michael Irvin lol. He got away with murder pushing off on A. Williams every time. I cussed the refs out on my tv every time we played the "Cowgirls".
