A lot of this is that he had Coby White creating shots for him, both directly and indirectly, with his driving ability. Who on the Suns can do that?

I mean the suns got plenty of 3's off last season, I don't really think that is a real problem.

But to more directly answer your question - Booker.

And most recently, he wasn't good enough to start even half the time for a Minnesota team that was one of the worst in the league, but by all means let's cherry pick facts to suit our own narrative, rather than seeing the facts as they are right now.
It was a bad fit in Minnesota. Everyone on both sides admits that. Monty coached him in Phili and knows exactly what he is getting. Even with the bad fit in Min he still averaged double digit points, shot almost 40% from 3pt range (and also 88% from the free throw line).

Most of them were heavily contested.

This guy shot at the 97% percentile for contested 3's.

Look it's not his fault we don't have a great distributing point guard.

What made him a bad fit in Minnesota?

You're right, but it is our management's fault for using a lottery pick to draft a shooter who needs a great facilitating and distributing point guard in order to be effective, when the team's biggest hole is the lack of a facilitating and distributing point guard.

Best case scenario: Cam Johnson is another Danny Green (2nd round pick, by the way), only without a Parker/Ginobili/Mills or Lowry/VanVleet/Kawhi to create for him.

Well - Coby White sure as hell doesn't fit that description, and neither did Garland - so I am not exactly sure why you expect that role to have been filled by now - that was always going to come in free agency if it ever does - and it probably won't

Which makes Cam Johnson a waste of a pick here. And Coby White, while having relatively low assist numbers, kept opposing defenses off balance with his speed and driving ability, which left Cam Johnson wide open after the second or third pass.

It does not make him a waste. Would he be 20% more efficient with a good passing PG - yeah maybe.

DLO would fix all those problems for us.

Too bad there isn't a snowball's chance in Phoenix in June that Russell comes here, particularly with our newfound cap space having been used up on Saric and Baynes.

If we had a Russell here, I could actually get behind Cam Johnson here, even if he was still a HUGE reach at 11.

As it stands, with the way the roster is shaping up, he looks to be last year's version of Bridges on offense and TJ Warren on defense.

Well, we can still get DLO - possibly. I know it seems highly unlikely - but I am going to be hoping for it because it is so obvious I want to believe the front office can be talked into once they know it's real.

That's all I have now is hope - and Gambo is doing his best to crush it.

Listened to the podcast that Main posted and others on the radio saying that Dlo is a pipe dream without other moves.

They have to do something.

If Kyrie doesn’t go to Brooklyn DLo will not be available. If Kyrie goes to Brooklyn and the Nets cut DLo loose the Suns can stretch Johnson and sign him.

Right?

Correct. If they want to give him the absolute max, they'll need to clear another million in salary, which means that one of the last year's rookie PGs are going bye-bye. I would personally advise against that, but whatever.

Theoretically, they COULD work out some kind of a sign and trade too, depending on the Nets' cap situation. I haven't actually looked at it, so I don't know if they can sign Kyrie with Russell's hold in place. Not sure what the Nets would want, honestly.

EDIT: Well, they have 58M in space. Should be plenty to sign Kyrie without renouncing Russell.
Wonder if they would go for a sign and trade with nothing but expiring contracts. Crabbe's off the books after next season ($18.5M), and Deron William's contract is finally coming off the books ($5.5M) after next season. Wonder if they would S&T Russell for Johnson, Jackson, etc in order to get Additional $25M next summer. They would literally have $50M+ next year. I am sure they could get a better deal from someone else.

What teams have stretched $19M+ salaries in the history of the nba? I’m asking a serious question. Are they all biggest markets (NY/LA/BOS/CHI) or Paul Allens? I ask bc it keeps getting thrown around as a possibility and while I know it’s LEGAL for the suns to do it, is there really even a 0.1% chance that Sarver would? I mean seriously?

If Russell becomes available and says he wants to be a Sun and play with his friend Sarver will be on the hot seat.

Latest buzz is the Nets aren’t interested in Kyrie anymore.

Good point though. Sarver hasn’t been faced with a money situation like this in a while. Of course he hasn’t had an opportunity to sign a max free agent in a while either.

If they did all of this would they even be close to the cap?

Here’s a scarier scenario. They do all this and start winning. In a few years they’ll have to pay 4 max contracts.

Who is the 4th max? Booker is one, presumably Russell another, and Ayton as the third but I don't know who you think the 4th is. If you think Bridges will be a max player, I think you're overvaluing him. He's a fine player but you don't pay him the max, if it comes down to that then you let him walk because he's not worth the max. Defensive specialists who average 10 ppg aren't max players and if you pay them that much you're screwing yourself financially for years to come.

Nets - Deron Williams
Pistons - Josh Smith
Lakers - Luol Deng
Magic - Arenas
Bucks - Larry Sanders(actually slightly less than your 19M+ requirement due to agreeing to buyout)
Knicks - Noah

Might be more I can't remember right now.

Blazers haven't used it any any 1 player making that much but they've used it multiple times and have accumulated a significant amount of dead money.

I found this list and assume it is accurate:

Brooklyn Nets - Deron Williams
Detroit Pistons - Josh Smith
Golden State Warriors - Jason Thompson
Houston Rockets - Troy Williams
Indiana Pacers - Monta Ellis
Los Angeles Clippers - Carlos Delfino and Miroslav Raduljica
Los Angeles Lakers - Luol Deng
New York Knicks - Joakim Noah
Minnesota Timberwolves - Cole Aldrich
Orlando Magic - CJ Watson
Memphis Grizzlies - Dakari Johnson
Miami Heat - AJ Hammons
Milwaukee Bucks - Spencer Hawes, Larry Sanders
Oklahoma City Thunder - Kyle Singler
Portland Trailblazers - Andrew Nicholson, Anderson Varejao, Festus Ezeli
Toronto Raptors - Justin Hamilton
Washington Wizards - Martell Webster

Hmm okay usage hasn’t been as exclusive a club as I might’ve thought. Thx.
