I would think they will escape the tunnel, head to the hilltop and the war will continue. I imagine bloody rick might be after the death of Negan or something similar. Pure conjecture on my part though.

I liked the episode even with the overlong Carl death sequences. I give them a mulligan on that. He was the longest playing character to bite the dust, was well liked by fandom, so ok.... give him the big sendoff.

I really do. I think everything we see will be through Rick's eyes leading up to the season finale. I hope that isn't the case but if there is one thing we have learned form the writers of this show is that they like to string things out.

Rick is also super pale and his eyes red which seems to indicate he has been bleeding out for a period of time too.

Rick’s people blew up a bunch of the Saviors with a rocket launcher immediately... then, they slaughtered a bunch of them in their sleep at the compound. All unprovoked.

Was it really that bad that in return Negan wanted to kill ONE of Rick’s as punishment?

the saviors were already enslaving two other communities. I can see where Negan thinks he has the moral high ground... he is trying to establish a new social contract similar to primitive man... the strong protect the weak and in turn the weak serve and pay their tax...
runs into complications when you meet people that dont feel they need protecting.

Didn’t Rick take Alexandria pretty much by force, then executed a guy for being bad?

Rick's whole character arc is basically will he become Negan or not. As of yet, IMO, he has not, but he has shown signs, and has done the things Cheese mentions. But he is still conflicted and his misdeeds have tended to be the result a rage rather than calculation. Rage is no excuse, but if I'm trying to compare the two as apples-to-apples: Negan routinely bashes heads in at random 'as a message,' steals people's wives, burns people's faces, throws people into fires, and forces people to fight zombies as minimum-wage labor. And is utterly convinced that he is saving people as he does. I assume we're being led to the question of whether Rick, in besting Negan, becomes him – or if Carl's vision stops him.

BTW - did we ever find out if someone from the Kingdom had their head bashed in? I think Ezekiel struck the deal at a distance to keep it from his people, but I can't remember what the first encounter was supposed to have been.

they brushed on it during the show. very few kingdom members even knew about the saviors...Ezekial had a special detail that paid them every week

I liked the last couple episodes. Jadis speaking normally - sure it was a trick, and her saying 'this whole place was a canvas' was a bit much - but I'm definitely intrigued about how she reappears into the story.

Side note: this point may have been made before, but I think the actor who plays Simon (Steven Ogg) would have made the better Negan. Simon has a witty charisma as well, but he's honestly just more unhinged and terrifying. In a way it'll be too bad if his disobedience at the dump leads to a quick exit.

Gabriel's story has gotten better IMO. I could see some viewers finding the minor miracles to be hokey, but those are exactly the things he's been waiting for, of course. I almost think it ended too soon: i would have been interesting to see him gain influence. Kind of like a Locke (Lost) character. Although Locke was more mysticism than established religion.

Incidentally I've also been catching up on FTWD, which really made a turn for the better. Season 3 is for sure better than recent TWD seasons. It requires the same suspension of disbelief that people would split up and reunite so conveniently in the apocalypse, but the plotting has been better, and the villains more compelling. The news of Morgan crossing over to FTWD is interesting, too. Wonder how they'll manage the timelines. (I'm assuming it's Morgan and not Lennie James playing someone else, but I've been avoiding the teasers.)

Rick attacked because he knew others were oppressed, what was happening and that they were coming for Alexandria next after meeting jesus and the hilltop. Totally different than running around, finding camps, showing up as a merry band of thugs, killing someone and making the town slaves to your group.

Simon is one of my favorite characters, I totally agree on him being terrifying. Did you by chance play GTAV? He plays an unhinged, alcoholic, meth cooking ex air force serviceman. It's one of the best crafted video game protagonists I have ever seen. He is a great actor.

FTWD season 3 was awesome, the first two were watchable but just ok, I thought season 3 was amazing. Morgan is in the show as Morgan, that's all I know as I avoid it as well but its really weird. In TWD we ran into morgan 3 times, once at the beginning, once in the middle and then his return. Unless FTWD travels north really fast, it means they are claiming that between those visits and outside of the cheesemaker, Morgan went down to the border and then came back up? We all know he will not die in the show, that wouldn't work but also that he will leave the group or something as he is obviously up in Virginia now.

When rick found him the second time in his "clear" rage, I think that was still the old town they were from, right? So this would almost have to be AFTER that but before the cheesemaker.

I love his character but the crossover raises a ton of questions. Hopefully it is from before when he became the peaceful monk type as when Morgan snaps, it makes for amazing television.

I just assumed FTWD would have to leap forward or something to meet Morgan after the Negan plot - it didn't occur to me that they would meet in the interim of TWD timelines. I don't see how he could cross a walker-infested continent and back. I mean, FTWD is in Baka now. I guess Proctor John mentioned going to Houston, and maybe that plays out somehow. But still, VA to Houston is still far...
