You're the Cards GM

The JG signing will send shock waves through the league. You got a guy with limited experience and a couple of wins now the highest paid player in the entire NFL. That kind of contract will upset the apple cart and salary structure not only for QB but for other players as well.

What to do if you are the Cards GM?? Let's hear your proposals without any negative bashing of other's suggestions.

Let's assume that a young vet Cousins is going to demand at least the same contract as JG.

Given our cap and player base and our #15 pick, I would:

Pass on Cousins.
1) Sign Sam Bradford
2) Sign Gabbert

Let the two fight it out in preseason to see which is the starter and which one is the backup.

3) Stay with the BPA at #15. Hopefully it is a QB that the Cards have highly rated and falls to them. You have two 'bridge' QBs and a FQB.

4) Restructure HB's contract. Look for HB going into year two with his recovery from his last knee to bounce back. Our new coaching staff witnessed Thomas Davis LB do the same.

5) Focus on building a strong OL with FA and lower round draft picks.

6) Get a complimentary RB to DJ in the draft.

6) Sign a key vet to plug into the D. We need a strong ILB. Have hopes for TW and Branch in our D backfield. Bethea was a good resign.

7) Sign a vet WR.

To compete, need a dominating D and a strong running game. If Bradford could just stay healthy---check out his numbers with the Vikes behind their then bad OL.

3. Go all in for OL in FA.

4. Go CB, WR, ILB, DE, & S in the draft. Let Branch walk.

Sign a caretaker QB (Matt Moore or Bridgewater (if passes extensive physical and is a FA).Draft QBOF with Round 1 pick trade if needed to move up.Draft Best CB or OLINE in RD 2-3.BPA rest of draft.

1. Sign Cousins (if possible). Sign a cheap backup (thinking Osweiler).
1a. Sign Bradford or Bridgewater or McCarron to be the bridge starter (again if available). Sign a guy destined to be the 3rd stringer.
1b. Sign McCown & Stanton/Gabbert/Osweiler.

This is where the timelines diverge. I'll start with the Cousins route.

2. Restructure HB, or release him if he won't restructure. Offer him a reasonable value to return.

3. Bring back Fitz. If you can't, sign Allen Robinson or Josh Gordon to a team friendly deal.

4. Sign a G or C.

5. Go BPA at #15. Keep your picks unless something amazing happens with a potential trade back for a QB or something. Aim for CB, WR, ILB, and OL. Draft a rookie in the 3rd or 4th round. Try to find a potential backup RB.

Let's go the non-Cousins route.

2. Approach HB about a restructure. If he won't, potentially keep him.

3. Solve for the Fitz situation. If he doesn't return, sign Jarvis Landry and a combination of Josh Gordon, Allen Robinson, or Terrelle Pryor.

4. Sign a G or C.

5. Think heavily about QB at #15. Don't overpay. Don't take the 4th guy off the board just because you have to. Wait until the 2nd round and get value there. Let whoever is picked in this scenario compete against the guys you already signed. Same as above for the rest of the draft.

Trade for Big Stick Nick if it doesn't take more than a 2nd rounder. If it does trade up for Mayfield or Jackson.

Trade TM for a late rd pick. Release Veldheer and Dawson.

The interior line is such a mess I'd keep Iupati even though he's nothing more than average. Restructure his deal. I'm not sure what releasing Gresham does. We're stuck with him.

Trade up into the top 3 of the draft.... one of them will make a reasonable trade. start with cleveland at 1, then talk to NY, then talk to Indy... using future 1's sucks, yeah... but having cap space allows the team to get vet players and allows more flexibility than picks.

Cut Mike Iupati...dude has always been a mauler in the run game and a middling pass blocker...we need better pass blocking on the left.

Sign Andrew Norwell OG(Carolina)... arguably the best guard in the NFL, didnt allow a single sack last season, and has history with our staff... bring him in and dont let him leave.

Extend and restructure Jared Valdheer... the man is our best olineman and he was just getting the hang of RT before we moved him back to LT

Sign Jarvis Landry... we need a #1 and a #2 Landry has some of the best hands in the business and he makes plays...he is small, but he is a baller.

extend Honey Badger, adjust his contract to get his cap hit in the $9mil per range, do this by adding a couple years with increased guaranteed cash...with players its all about the guarantees...or cut him..whatever.

Draft Simmie Cobbs Jr(WR)

Draft Frank Ragnow(C/G)

Draft Tyrell Crosby (OT)

Draft Mike Hughes (CB)

I highly doubt Lamar will be gone by then, but in that case, I would go Denzel Ward or Vita Vea.

I would inform every vet that every position is up for grabs. And that from here on out we will be looking for starters who are willing and able to play and/or improve to an all-pro caliber player.

1. Get Foles or Bradford or the like for QB
2. Draft late round QB
3. Trade 1.15 for Browns 2.3, 2.32, 3.1
4. Trade 2.3 to Niners for 2..27 % 3.6
5. Trade 2.32 to GB for 3.12 & 4.14
6. Trade 5.15 to Oak for 6.10 & 7.9
7. Now with 10 picks 2.15, 2.27, 3.1, 3.6, 3.12, 3.15, 4.14, 6.10, 7.9, 7.15 our draft could look something like:

This is still missing the point. These teams have to give up on these guys at a huge position of need. They're all pro teams. Major professionals paid a premium to identify the best talent. The Giants and Colts have won more Super Bowls since 2000 than we have ever. To think you're going to out play them is foolish. If they're moving back from these players at possibly the most important position in sports, when they don't have a solution, it means there's a big issue there. You're going to be the goat, and I don't mean it as the acronym.
