First D'Backs, now Suns. Talking Stick looking at $450M renovation bill and now debate on who pays begins and Suns future in downtown PHX in question.

The Jazz here in Utah just renovated their arena for about $125M. Now, they didn't increase capacity or anything - just renovating seats, amenities, scoreboards, displays, etc. Can't imagine why the bill for TS would be that high. They certainly don't need more empty seats...

Of those, Milwaukee's new arena opens next year, Golden State's in 2019, while Madison Square Garden had a $1 BILLION reno in 2011-13.

The other two (Minn and Utah) just underwent $125M renos (and are 1 and 2 years older than Talking Stick)

20 years just isn't that long. It's made of cement. Even if it needs updated plumbing or air conditioning, what else is there. It's just a basketball arena, a new one could be built from the ground up for less than that. It's much older than Conseco Fieldhouse, for example. But I wouldn't say there's anywhere close to even $100 million in difference between the two.

Talking Stick Resort Arena/America West Arena/US Airways Arena received a $70 million renovation that was completed in 2003, right before Sarver bought it. I know it's older now but 25 years isn't that old, especially when it received a significant renovation 14 years ago.

Found this article on the renovations, it says $50 million on there but Wikipedia states $67 while discussing it. I remember hearing about it and I believe it was somewhere in between 50 & 70 million...

It does need some renovations. They could have done better keeping up with it all along. But we do not need a new building.

I don't think the Suns need a new building, especially with how they haven't made the playoffs in 8 years. I know the timeline says they'll be competing in 2-3 years which could be used to build an arena but I think most people want to see a winner before they're willing to fund a new stadium.
