Ok I'm just saying apparently several GM's have made it clear they're concerned about Lavar, they haven't come out and put their name to it though so I guess that's consistent with what you're saying.

Yeah, I think every GM in the league is concerned about Lavar but not every GM has the freedom to say so. Lonzo has a decent chance to be the best player in this class and if you're in a position to take him you're not going to want to jeopardize that relationship by antagonizing the dad.

18-19 year olds are not usually to the point in life where they can stand up to a dad like Lavar. I would not expect Lonzo to do it, especially with his quiet personality. He will at some point.

I totally agree with you about Lavar treating his son's money like it is his own.

The Lakers are weeks away from needing to make their final decision, but there are many that believe the Lakers could go after both Kansas forward Josh Jackson and Kentucky guard De’Aaron Fox (who made my Mock at 2 this week) with the second overall pick. It’s become so real that Ball’s camp, which started the process saying he’d only meet with the Lakers, have expressed a willingness to meet with the Philadelphia 76ers and possibly the Sacramento Kings depending on how things go with the Lakers. To add to the speculation of Ball falling to us at #4, Jerry Colangelo said that he doesn't like the people around Lonzo and that that could pose a problem at the NBA level. The 76'ers have enough issues without adding Lavar to the bunch and I can't see Jerry or Bryan putting up with him. I imagine this will get blown up in the next day or two once Lavar responds.

I didn't read the whole blurb but there's apparently a guy named Schultz who started that rumor on Larry Brown sports and it's gettting picked up everywhere now, that Lakers are "off" Lonzo Ball.

He may be right I have no idea but he's also on record that Trier turned pro with an agent(he's back at Arizona) and that Steve Alford is the new coach at Indiana 7 years 31 million done deal 100%. So his recent track record with Pac 12 stuff is pretty bad.

But again he might be right on Lonzo I have no idea.

I want him on the Warriors but see no way that would happen. My 2nd pick would be the Kings as I'm moving out there pretty soon so they would be my local team. I'm not a Laker fan at all. My guess is he'd hate playing in Sacramento though, terrible team and orgnanization right now and just not the same limelight as the Lakers would be.

I hope he winds up a Laker he's a good kid and it's the perfect scenario for him to come and take over that team eventually. they'd be bad enough to get another high pick next year and then if everyone matures suddenly you have Randle, Ingram, Russell, Clarkson, Ball and whoever they get next year as a nucleus.

But they're several years away from doing anything with or without Lonzo.

I like Ball but I don't think he has anywhere near Jason Kidd's speed. I just watched that clip on youtube and I think Kidd had a much faster first step.

Schultz is an idiot. Aside from the Trier story, which was a coin-flip to begin with, he's f'd up every prediction, especially those with ties to Arizona basketball.

Regarding this story, Gershon already reported that this report was bait to gauge Philadelphia's interest in Ball.

In short, @Brian in Mesa and @D-Dogg should go buy their Lonzo Ball jerseys and ZO2s.

I'd have to assume that Magic as the Lakers think they can keep a lid on Ball's dad more than many other teams could - especially since that's where Lavar wants them to be. But I wouldn't be surprised if feuds with coaches and players getting more time or exposure are inevitable.

I know exactly what he means about people "connected" to kids and how they often act in their own best interests instead of the kids. not just in terms of steering kids to certain schools, agents etc. We had a guy on a UCLA board who's "connected" to the parents of one of the UCLA guys, he's a neighbor apparently. He has spent the last few years spreading rumors about how unhappy the kid is, he's transferring(he didn't), he's turning pro(he didn't), he's going to graduate early and grad transfer(he didn't). Over and over. to this day there are people on the board who hang on every word he says and insist the kid has been mistreated and dislikes the coaches and yet outside of committing to UCLA, virtually nothing he's said about the kids opinions have been borne out with actions. it's pretty clear those are really his opinions, not the player.

We had a case a few years back at UCLA with Tyler Honeycutt where his mom was openly posting on boards and she was bragging about how good he was and how Howland wasn't using him correctly and he'd be an NBA star. When he left everyone knew he wasn't a first rounder, she insisted he was, he wasn't, but got a guaranteed contract anyways, she came back to brag and say I told you so. He was out of the league so fast it made your head turn and of course we later found out the real reason he left early and she disliked Howland so much, she had been dealing with an agent since he was a senior in HS, and when UCLA found out, they told him to turn pro because he was going to be ineligible after they reported him to the Pac 12. Odds were one more year and he's a first rounder with a longer guaranteed contract so the small amount of money she took cost him millions.

Interesting about Jackson in this article. They mention his competitiveness. You get the impression that Jackson is a Kevin Garnett type of competitor. That is contagious on a team.
