RE CANNON: It's not his fault. He's a SS and it's 200% on the FO for failing to get a DWash replacement.

Special teams play was much better this week! That hit Bethel layed on their return man in the first qtr is what he needs to continue to play like! I just rewatched game and man he knocked that guy silly as soon as the ball touched his fingers honestly surprised he held onto the ball lol.

You nailed it.........or not since several NFL teams are now copying what the Cards did with Bucannon and putting biggish safeties at LBer.

Several teams copied the wildcat too...

Because it was successful, just like Bucannon is right now. We are not talking about the long term viability of bigger safeties playing as LBers at this point.

I'm sure the FO would prefer to have DWashout back at ILBer but I'm not so sure they wouldn't keep Bucannon on the field with him. Bucannon led the team in tackles last year and currently 3rd on the team this year with 10.

As a side note Tony Jefferson leads the team with 21 tackles, he is earning himself a big payday with his play this year.

"Much" better? Nah... We missed an extra point and had virtually zero punt return yards and Ellington refused to run the ball back on Kick Return...

I think it's a mistake to equate number of tackles with value on the open market. Tackles aren't an official stat, and a tackle on a play where you give up a 13-yard completion isn't very valueable.

I agree that Jefferson has a fair payday coming to him, but it won't be because he got a lot of tackles.

I would bet that nearly 100% of his 21 tackles occurred either behind the line of scrimmage, or within a yard or two... he's been extremely impressive and hugely effective.

Cool take, bro.

I wasn't saying because of tackles but because of his play. As a side note Tony Jefferson leads the team with 21 tackles, he is earning himself a big payday with his play this year.

Maybe I should have started a new sentence to avoid confusion.

All I know is that the S tandem of Mathieu and Jefferson will look good if they can get on the same page (health and high level play). Similar type of instinctual players which helps them play faster than their timed speed. Highlights the lack of natural instincts in Minter and Bucannon at LB.

have you seen our Kick Return game? You keep hammering on Ellington like he did something wrong, but taking a knee when you can get to 25 yard line is smart.

Agreed cheese was smart to take a knee when you get 25 us line. We held their regents in check and punted well which is a huge deal with field positioning. We can expect a missed kick or two especially with a rookie LS. Point is we played much much better I special teams if you actually watched and payed attention!

There have been a couple of time where he was barely in the end zone when catching the kickoff. He could've taken those out and tried to get it past the 25. I mean, why have him back there at all if our strategy is to simply start at the 25 on each possession?

Honestly the way he's been returning them I'll take the 25 over chancing he gets further.

4 returns 61 yards total, longest is 21. So the other 3 he got 40 yards total.

Couldn't disagree more on the ILB play. On most of the wide plays Bucannon took out the supporting blockers or forced the play to run into a waiting tackler. Minter constantly filled gaps which helped decimate the run game. In this defense both did their jobs well IMO.

Also agree that Jefferson was awesome. Humphries has exceeded my expectations. Fitz is incredible every game. A bunch of heroes in this game!

Cause it is a free ball, and someone has to catch it.

I would be pissed as all hell if any kick returner on the Cardinals takes a kick off out of the end zone, and not take the free 25 yards. The risk/reward ain't worth it, IMHO.

Agreed. Besides with our Offense we don't need cheap points or field position, we need solid to good field position.

Josh Mauro deserves recognition. He played a big part with Nkemdiche sitting, and we saw it with lots of pressure and solid run D. And also hes responsible for the tipped pass pick-6.

On a sidenote, Tony Jefferson is playing the best football of any Cardinal. I really, really hope we resign that guy. Hes a game changer.
