Nice article. Too bad tackling can't be listed as a hero. Defense played inspired and aggressive...not missing near as many tackles as they did last week. Mathieu will eventually return to his slot/roamer position, so not too worried there. Not sure what the deal is with C. Jones -- he's inconsistent and doesn't make a huge impact at all, but hopefully that changes as he becomes more familiar with the defense?

Nice take on Palmer - couldn't agree more.

Great take on Palmer... He is playing at a very high level, yet, somehow it never really feels that way!
Couldn't agree more with your views on Jones, Deone and Minter. And can't wait for the Badger to take the brace off and become the Honey Badger we know and love!

there was a play where Minter was spread out wide on a RB and I was losing my mind, if anything it should be bucannon, there is never any reason to have minter playing man against someone outside the hashmarks.

There seemed to be a few "WTF?" pre-snap moments for this defense where my sphincter would clench, and then nothing would happen.

I actually love this comment considering what has been said about them in years past...."The offensive line needs to stay healthy and gel"

Rhetorical question... just how do they use DJ more but preserve him?

I think it's the offense. We take so many high risk plays that it's just not that easy to complete them all. Warner would get on these ridiculous rolls where he'd be like 14-16 and both incompletions were drops, but there are very few guys like that in the NFL and in THIS type of offense with all the downfield throws it's just tough.

They can definitely get him more touches running the ball, he's only averaging 14 carries a game so far. They could have him averaging around 16-18 carries with 3-5 receptions each game and not run him into the ground. Then you'll have the games where he's white hot and get 20-25 carries like when he demolished philly and had close to 30.

WINNING makes everything better! To stay relevant, IMHO, you have to win one of your 1st three games.

DONE!

So, Bucannon's struggles highlight my issues with the Cardinals as a team. They have taken a hybrid player and put him into a LB position where his size is a liability. They have taken a non-speed rusher on the outside in Jones, and continually rush him off the edge. Same with Golden who then is exploited at POA in the run game. Essentially Bettcher's defensive coaching is win vs your man. For all of my criticism of Minter, Bettcher does him no favors lining him up wide. Who is playing at a high level on our defense right now? Patrick Peterson and Tony Jefferson. Peterson is one of the best in the NFL, and Jefferson is in Mathieu's role right now. Campbell, Jones, Golden and Bucannon are all struggling.

the play where DJ takes a 6 yard check down, makes Kwon Alexander miss -- and promptly goes 58 yards

and the thing is: that is the third time he has done something like that

that has to make D coordinators sweat a bit going forward

I would add Tony Jefferson to the Hero's group in the format allowed more than three.

Fully agree with your observation of Palmer and I think Russ nailed the reason why.

I do think Bucannon made some impactful plays but I get your point that he isn't DWashout. I would replace Buc with Floyd for this week and yes I know he got the TD catch but he isn't doing enough to earn his salary or draft status.

You have to like the way Peterson has taken ownership of the defense. I was skeptical about making him the highest paid cb. But he's doing everything he can to earn that contract. Things like working overtime with Brandown Williams, doing menial drills with him when everybody else has gone home. For awhile, I was bummed we passed on JJ Watt for Peterson. Now I'd have to actually think about that. He adds so much value right now. And he's still only 26.

Tony Jefferson has to be a hero. After watching the replay he was on or around almost every defensive play. Is he didn't make a tackle he would take out a blocker and allow another teammate to make the tackle. MVP of the game.

Buccanon had some really good tackles, not really a goat.
Tyrann was way deep, like the 3rd level of defense.

Cooper was no doubt the hero of the game. Game ball.

I'm going to have to reluctantly list Shipley as a hero. Only because he hasn't been the train wreck I thought he would be manning the center position. I think he's actually been decent.

I have to agree with you. There were a few times I saw him get to the second level and make a good block. Shocking.

I watched a little Massie last night in the Chicago game, and they made a good move with Humpries - he is bigger and more agile than Massie, just needs to continue working on technique and the mental part of the game. Pretty shocking that Massie was the last OLine starter we drafted, when you think about it.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. So far Humphries is proving to be an upgrade.

Boehm should be starting soon. I loved him at Missouri, and I think he has at least near pro bowl potential.
