I just watched the play and he had a TD if WeatherSpoon blocked the guy who tackled Peterson. I have no idea why WeatherSpoon didn't block the guy. If he blocked him, Peterson just had the kicker to beat.

Sean Weatherspoon, who is a lifelong linebacker, should never be on the field trying to throw an offensive block on anyone. It confounds me that we have wide receivers and running backs on kicking teams trying to tackle, and defenders on the receiving teams trying to run and block. Put people in a position to use their long practiced skill sets! Don't just say "they're football players, they need to do their job'. That's Russ Grimm stupid.
They have one job to do that they practice over and over every day, then you ask them to go do the opposite on special teams.

Saw it, watched it several more times today, it was completely pathetic.

If you guys didn't 'see it, I will try to get pics for you. But it's pretty simple. Peterson would have scored. There was literally 1 guy to beat, Spoon, 55, top right of the screen has one guy to block. He sees him and he literally just gets out of the way. He didn't even have to block him, he could have simply got in his way and PP would have been gone.

It wound up not mattering, but that's not an excuse for a flat out stupid or lazy (orboth) play like that. That could have cost us 7 points. BASK has been REALLY good about finding these old guys that still want to play and still CAN play, but they missed on Spoon. He's literally a spectator on the field.

In the first picture you see Spoon see his guy, you know, the guy he needs to block. The only guy between PP and the end zone.

In the second Picture, you see Spoon literally running away from the guy he's supposed to be blocking. I think he is trying to get a better seat for what is next...

In the 3rd picture (Bottom) you see Spoon now has an ideal viewing angle to relax and watch PP get tackled.

That's irritating Bert, but thanks for sharing.

Spoon sucks ass, even on a special teams easy play for him, he can't make it and doesn't even want to make it. Pathetic. And we wonder why he isn't on the field on defense.

wow that's just annoying. If there weren't cap implications you'd be tempted to cut a guy for doing that.

The pictures don't show the punter to the right and that's who Weatherspoon decided to go after, but then realized PP was tackled already so stopped. It was a dumb decision on his part to not block the guy on top as PP would have been able to out run the punter and score a TD. Not sure if Weatherspoon thought PP could out run him they guy, but either way, dumb move.

Nah, he had no chance of getting away from that tackle.

Does anyone think that Spoon is serving his punishment for sitting out the offseason work? Is he really not a better option at ILB than Minter or Bucannon?

Amazing what Peterson is capable of when he doesn't a) bolt directly for the sidelines, b) field punts with 3 defenders within 3 inches of his face, and c) fair catch punts with no defenders within 10 yards. He's been doing WAY to much of all 3 for a long time.

Great post and I completely agree. Just poor execution and decision making on Spoons part. Hopefully we have someone else who is better at blocking on ST's.

That middle picture looks like all my Namco vibrating table players who always managed to run directly away from the guy they were supposed to tackle.
