Agree, he's had chances but I don't think he's a lost cause. In NE, he obviously wasn't going to play. In Houston, O'Brien kind of pulled the rug from under him when he didn't let him back in after taking a shot to the ribs and had to come out for 1 play.

I have to laugh that he's now a cancer because he made a juvenile play of missing his flight and hurt mostly himself by doing that. I've never read any other effects of him being a problem child in the NFL.

Well that's apparently the 3rd "team related" event he's missed this season already. And again he missed film study on Sat, allegedly was told they were considering releasing him they were so mad but decided not to, and then missed the flight the next day.

I don't know if he's a cancer but if you can't beat out Brian Hoyer at QB when they literally want you to beat him out, seems like you should be blaming yourself not the team.

Slept in and missed a full practice during training camp.

Missed a pre-draft meeting with Carolina.

Yeah that sleepin was famous because it was on tv with him telling them he overslept and would buy an alarm clock so it wouldn't happen again. Who the hell doesn't have a cell phone these days with a clock on it?

He's a knucklehead, but I know he had his defenders here. For literally nothing, would you let Arians and Moore kick the tires on him?

I honestly believe you couldn't offer BASK, or Michael for that matter, enough money to merely kick the tires on this trash... ;)

Yeah missing training camp practice was really bad, especially considering he was battling for the position at QB.

On Hard Knocks, it was the practice after the coach told him he was going with Hoyer as the starter. I thought O'Brien handled that situation terribly with how he told both guys who was starting but Mallett looked awful not showing up the next day. If I were the coach or GM I would have cut him right then.

This has to be one of the dumber threads started lately. Mallet will be out of the league after this year.

This is a dumb thread, but this is a league where Luke McCown is a snap away from being a starting QB. Mallett will be here for a while.

I heard Mallett was originally cast in that commercial McCown is in, but he missed the filming.

This guy is a malcontent and makes Leinart look like a choir boy. Did you know that by getting cut, he forfeited over $500k in pro-rated pay? For someone who might not play again in this league, that's a bit of coin.

Yeah you're right. Even still, the starting position was given to Hoyer but it had strings attached to it. On top of that, Mallett's weak excuse why he missed the practice saying he overslept looked really bad.

He had red flags regarding character coming out of college. I think he was linked to cocaine use.

They're paying Weatherspoon $2.35 million aren't they? Paying him that kind of money to see the field on punts.

I liked Mallett coming out. He displayed once in a generation arm talent (not my words,I remember scouts saying it), but he's known to be a knuckle head.

I would bring him in as a tryout player, but honestly I don't think they let Barkley go for Mallett and I don't blame them.

And while we're at it, why don't we trade for Greg Hardy.
Your quarterback can not be a complete idiot, even if he has an arm.
This guy won't see the field again, nor should he.

We traded for Barkley so I don't think we'll pick him up. At the same time, they've now seen Barkley and the draft pick is a sunk cost. Mallett wouldn't cost us any more picks.

I think we'd know or could find out what stage, if any, he was in the drug program.

With our line playing well and Carson being in sync with everything, I think his injury risk is reduced. But we've been there, and would anyone rather sign Lindley again or kick the tires on Mallett?

Young QB's with talent are pretty rare these days. It's going to be very interesting to see what kind of QB play the NFL has in 5 years or so when all these 33+ QB's are out of the league... or not. Even if these old QB's diminish, there has to be some semblance of talent to replace them, or QB's will continue getting older league wide.

Overall we don't know the entire situation and can presume whatever we want, but the Cardinals probably know more then us and potentially have access to even more. Clearly Mallett is a knucklehead to some degree, but the Texans look like a team on the brink of abject failure.

Mallett is clearly competitive and thinks highly of himself. While his transgressions clearly give reason to management releasing him, they are pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. It's just that his transgressions are toxic to management authority, and put them in a bind, thus they hold stronger consequences. Though at the same time, P.J. Tucker has missed a flight or two and got a DUI so the transgressions themselves are not an automatic ticket out of town. It's because it appears he did them willfully to challenge authority of a management structure... a management structure that is under pressure and can't afford copycats and are in a position due to losing where it could spread.

We also must remember he was a member of the Patriots for a few years and BB isn't one to put up with crap, so if he could behave for BB, there is hope he could behave for someone else. Maybe Arians and Keim are someone he can respect.

It's interesting that Hoyer and Mallett were both backups for Brady, and that might play into the situation. Perhaps the Patriots staff, maybe even BB himself made some sort of comparison comment between Hoyer and Mallett, and Mallett sees this structure is clueless because they see the situation differently. They did keep Mallett and let Hoyer go. Perhaps it's just Mallett moping that he let Hoyer pass him by. We'll never really know, but there could be an interesting backstory that set the stage for all this to happen.

It would also be interesting to see if the Patriots pick him back up. It's possible they could but might not because they have moved on and it just doesn't make sense for them. But it's something to watch. At the very least if the Cards are interested, they could pick up the phone and call BB and get the low down from their perspective.

Hey the guy may be a complete knucklehead cancer, but until you know that for sure, you risk missing out on a potential QBOF. I don't think it's likely. I don't think it is even a decent shot. But how many GM's look stupid for not kicking the tires of Chris Johnson right now? How many people maybe assumed a bit too much.

Good GM's seek out the information for themselves and then make decisions. It would be nice to add to the mix and perhaps find a replacement next year for Stanton, but perhaps has a brighter future. Palmer won't last forever so we need to be searching. But we made a move so I believe we can tread cautiously. Nevertheless, a door just presented itself, and we'll see if Keim and BA decide to open it.

I attribute those type of things to being an immature knucklehead and can be addressed, POSSSIBLY, if put in the right situation and BA/Moore are supposedly the best. It's not like were talking bringing him in as a starter. His talent merits a chance. I would have rather had him in there against Carolina last year than Lindley.

Still, his problems are all self-inflicted and he has no one to blame but himself.

Mallet has the size and arm strength for sure. To me it all depends on the game film. Is he close to putting it all together or not. I haven't watched him so I don't know but if I'm BASK I'm looking at what he has on film to see whether or not to bring him in.

I think Mallett needs some real mentorship and guidance. He needs a change.

He has real arm talent, and they didn't handle things well with him in Houston.

Ryan Leaf II. I think he's done in the league. I predict a reverse Kurt Warner career - start in the NFL, end up bagging groceries.
