B.A. has to get Larry involved earlier IMO. I realize the Chargers were scheming to take him away, but still get him a reception before the fourth quarter.

I'll take a look at the All-22 tomorrow or Thursday to check this for sure, but I sincerely doubt this is the case. There were a lot of downs where Fitz wasn't even on the field.

Palmer said after the game they were doubling him but I don't know if he was just trying to ease the pain for Larry or if that was true.

Given his penchant for forcing to Fitz last year I suspect it may have been more he's not open I'm not going to turn it over forcing to him I'll go somewhere else.

Probably blasphemy but I wouldn't be surprised to see us almost using Fitz as a TE at times this year? With the 2 Browns and Floyd and with Housler not playing too much and Niklas not ready it will allow us to get more good receivers out there. He's big enough to do it here and there line up at TE.

Yeah but if the score was 17-14 we would have played it different down the stretch and not gotten the Brown TD.

We had an opportunity to take control early. Backed up to our own endzone, Palmer hits Floyd on a beautiful 63 yard play only to have Ellington drop the ball and Massie for some reason not able to secure the fumble even though he fell right on top of the ball. Cost us at least 3 points there. Then to get inside the 10 and only come away with 3. You have to take advantage of these things. It's week 1 and I'll chalk this up to opening day jitters. The Giants are ripe for the taking and are incredibly bad. We should be able to beat them.

The Good:

The Chargers basically went no-huddle all night. Frostee and Abraham went out, cutting into our defensive rotations up front. That meant our big boys had to play a lot more reps, in rapid succession, than they were probably planning. It was an all-out assault. Wave-after-wave of SD plays.

And yet, they held. More than that, they strangled the Chargers in the 4th Quarter and gave our offense ever opportunity to compose itself.

I don't need a bad or ugly after that display. That was something pretty special.

Larry Foote-Tell you what, this guy played his guts out. He was everywhere. With no Dockett, Dansby, DWash, and Abraham, Foote stepped up big time and, as would be apropos, made the game saving play of the night. The guy should get defensive player of the week honors but he won't because of some guy named JJ Watt.

Foote was amazing. He deserves the game ball IMO. His awareness is off the charts. It was clear on more than 1 occasion that he'd figured out what the offense was doing before they even snapped the ball. Having a guy like that to captain your defense is game changing.

I had a delicious plate of crow regarding Foote. I really, really thought that was another bad ex-Steeler pick up. But, at least last night, he was a total stud out there. Defensive MVP of the game IMO.

Cardinals Offensive Snap Count:
WR Michael Floyd 63, Larry Fitzgerald 60, John Brown 39, Ted Ginn Jr. 17, Jaron Brown 5.

Out of 70 offensive snaps, that's not "a lot" of downs where Fitz wasn't on the field.

Looking forward to hearing what you learn from the all-22!

I agree about the lack of holding calls on the Chargers oline. They were blatantly getting away with it all night.

Well, mostly in the 2nd half. The first half was fairly ugly to watch for the most part.

But Kelly and Foote really played well. It will be nice to have Mathieu back at almost full strength. He doesn't miss that tackle on Mathews on his TD run.

It is for Larry Fitzgerald. Last year, Fitzgerald was on the field for 92.1% of offensive snaps.

Kent Somers noted that on some third-down plays the Cards had 3 or more WRs on the field, and none of them were wearing #11.

That IS peculiar! It will be interesting to see whether this is a trend or an anomaly going forward....

Regarding Massie, he did have some poor errors, the false start, the whiff, but regarding the muff of Ellington's fumble, Arians stated that Massie was wearing a hand cast, which contributed to his being unable to corral the loose football.

From Urban's blog:
– Arians didn’t seem that bothered by the fact right tackle Bobby Massie didn’t just fall on the Andre Ellington fumble, which ended up with the Chargers and cost the Cardinals an early scoring chance. The cast on Massie’s hand — which he apparently has — was the culprit, Arians said. “He tried to pick it up and run with it,” Arians said. “The cast dropped it.”

I'd like to add another Good:
The condition of the field. Looked like a big difference from the last PS home game. Congrats, Ground Crew.

This. Although I did curse them on one Ellington rush where he appeared to slip.

Same here. Today on the radio they played an interview BA gave a couple months ago, after we lost Wash and Dansby: he said he wasn't worried at all because he has Bowles and that last year we led the league in LB's running free, not being engaged. He even made a point to say that has nothing to do with athletic ability, that it was scheme.

I'm not saying Wash and Dansby are easily replaced but after hearing BA say that it made me wonder how much of it is scheme. Foote seemed like he was EVERYWHERE last night and I didn't expect much from him.

Yes, scheme has a lot to do with it; Bowles defensive scheme does free up the ILBs to be the playmakers. But players still need to make those plays.

Bowles deserves a great deal of credit, but so also does Larry Foote for the job he did against San Diego.

Agreed.

So who exciting is it to have coaches that mostly put our players in a great position to succeed.
