Thomas last night

When the time comes that Thomas has a chance to start at QB---it would behoove the coaches to cater the offense to his strengths by tapping into his athleticism. The current offense is geared toward Carson Palmer's strengths.

What's encouraging about Thomas as a prospect is that he has the tools to be both a very good pocket passer and a dynamic QB on the move.

I agree, but he needs work and with AZ's setup, he has that time to work on his skills.

In their 32-7 win over the Falcons they shut out the Falcons in the 2nd half and limited T.J. Yates to 4/12/63 yds./0 TDs/2 ints.

In their 18-17 win over Denver---again shout out the Broncos in the 2nd half, limiting Brock Osweiller to 4/11/43/0 TDs/1 int.

Thomas deserves more credit for his performance versus the Texans than you are giving him. Cooper and Minter missed two weeks and they were talking about the difficulty of shaking off the rust. Imagine what it is like for a young QB.

Cooper and Minter haven't practiced or played for like 3 weeks. So yes there is rust there. Thomas hasn't missed any practices. There shouldn't be any rust.

Cooper and Minter aren't rookies, either. Playing in practice where as a QB you aren't getting hit---and playing in a game where you get nailed just as you plant your back foot at the end of a five step drop are two completely different things.

I'm not worrried at all about Thomas regarding the game last night. Clearly the coaches were out to show NOTHING to the Chargers. The only we could get out of that game is how individual players did with their one on one matchups.

I thought that he played up to his form with a lousy line in front. Aside from that perfect pass that might have been a TD he was high, low, and totally not close. He is going to need time to get his 6'6 frame and his 250lb to coordinate with his mind and his arm. Get ready to see him not before camp next year.

I've said it here on ASFN before. I've watched a ton of his senior season games and I'm not sold on the guy. Not sure if he is the QBOTF.

He is what he is and that is what he was at Va Tech for 3 years. Looks great coming off the bus/plane. Looks great in passing drills. Looks like junk in games.

Thanks for the feedback, I was hoping off the first game that I was wrong about him but sounds like last night he was the guy I thought we drafted. I hope BA and Moore can fix him and obviously there has never been a QB who looked good with a terrible OL and that's not his fault.

Like I said I don't think he plays at all until next year and it might even be the year after that barring something unexpected.

The first couple of throws were easy, but he hit them nicely and he and Niklas suddenly had me not disliking the draft as much. Maybe I just won't watch the game and then my memory of it will be those 2 plays.

i fell asleep on that bull. That was some terrible football on both sides. i would't be surprised if they cut any of the guys on the field last night. Of course they won't but I would not be opposed to them cutting LT and rolling with an extra LB.

Reference LT not missing any practice sessions, being compared to Cooper and Minter. The question for LT is how many reps he got in those sessions. And of course I don't have an answer.

Honestly if he had a better OL last night, I think he would have played a little better. I think he got skidish out there after getting hit a few times and his mind was on that rather then the throws.

I think you're right. He was sharp (I thought) in the first series and then the protection broke down. It's three freaking preseason games. I think it's a little early to throw him under the bus in a season where he's not even going to touch the ball (fingers crossed) in another game.
I wouldn't let Bradley Sowell block my way to the beer stand at a Grateful Dead concert.

We as Cards fans were hoping Thomas' athletic skills would translate to a very good NFL QB. In reality, it's just a pipe dream IMO. He is who he is & has been...an inaccurate QB who just doesn't have the unique skillset & talent to be what we wanted him to be.

I've seen & heard this same broken record over & over with previous guys!! If you want a damn good NFL QB, you're basically gonna have to draft one in the first 2 rounds of the draft. I never thought Thomas would be a legit NFL starter & he's done nothing to change that opinion.

OK, I agreed with almost all of this until you got to the ANAL EXAM part. That's where you lost me.

Thus, devoting a whole half in pre-season game number two to Lindley and giving Lindley most of the reps in practice and all the reps in the game in week 2 set Thomas' progression back. How's that decision to give Lindley that week and game looking now?

Then, when Thomas had his biggest chance to play in game 4 what we saw was regrettable from a coaching standpoint---pure vanilla play calling by Harold Goodwin (who had never called plays before), atrocious pass protection (not just in terms on one-on-ones, but in the schemes themselves as many rushers came at LT unblocked, a trio of WRs (two of which are not going to make the team) who understandably ran out of gas quickly with no subs and a running game that was non-existant.

Lastly, after BA praised Harold Goodwin for his play-calling---which of course BA is going to do because he is not going to throw his coach under the bus---he went on to say that LT is "who we thought he was"---an erratic QB who is a project. This certainly was a far cry from BA's rhetoric following Thomas' superb Week 1 debut where BA was gushing about Thomas and telling all the pundits and naysayers to eat crow.

Agree.

Why give that time to Lindley when we all knew who he was and how bad he was.

Give the new guy a chance to build on what he did the game before and if takes a step back then prepare him for the next week to see if he can progress. If he doesn't progress at all then it's time to be concerned a little.

Lindley is nothing special and we could find someone that bad at any time. No need to protect him or showcase him.
