Cards take DE Kareem Martin from UNC. Compare his combine numbers to Clowney. You might be surprised. I like it.

Mayock said he was one of two defensive ends moving up the board as the draft approached. Then Eisen spent the rest of the time begging for Super Bowl accommodations this Feb. That's all I got.

We added a freak athlete to the defensive line. It all depends on how much he wants it.

Good endorsement

Thanks for posting that here.

Makes me feel a lot better about the pick

Haven't seen him play so I can't really comment on him. As I mentioned he did look good at the combine. But that is only a small piece of the puzzle.

Clowney is a freak this guy? Mehhhh

Clowney is a freak of nature.

This guy is a freak of athleticism..big difference. Everything I'm looking at screams Calais Cambell 2.0, down to character. Weird to have big long athletic guys like that on the edges, but the nfl.com callout that he could play 3-4 OLB in a 2-gap system is kind of intriguing because he would have to be very athletic at that size to pull that off.

With how late we drafted this year, I aint on the up and up with these players. Sounds like our scouts really be pimping these players though, need has been a big part of this Draft, players we need right now as Arians like to say. I'm neither impressed nor depressed, just going to wait and see how they pan out.

Nice to see that he could play OLB

Martin is a decent pick....needs coaching but tons of potential....somewhat lacking in quick twitch muscle reflexes which gets him off the ball a bit slowly but he has good overall speed...pretty strong...decent instincts

COMPARES TO: Justin Tuck, New York Giants -The team that selects Martin hopes the UNC standout will show the same dedication towards improvement that Tuck has since earning a third round pick out of Notre Dame in 2005. Tuck has developed into a fine pass rusher for the Giants but his game remains reliant on his length and strength at the point of attack.
Quite a comparison. Sounds like we need to light a fire under him

Could someone explain this pick to me? Too small and weak to play 34DE. Too big and slow to play 34 OLB. A traditional 43 DE on a 34 team...??????

I don't think he fills the need for an edge pass rusher. He isn't going to be an OLB, he has no experience in coverage.

Again, what I think is that they are looking at him as a replacement for Dockett long term, and spelling Dockett short term.
