Hello all, long time lurker here.
Just up and about contemplating life, liberty, and trying to wrap my mind around the amount of time that it took CP to wake up in this offense as compared to the amount of time it took the offensive line to finally keep him standing. I'm sure that there is a graph that someone could make, but that is for someone with a more critical mind than mine.
According to dictionary.reference.com, the definition of dichotomy is 'division into two parts, kinds, etc.; subdivision into halves or pairs'. This word is the best definition of the season that I can think of.
The dichotomy of the Cardinals' season is both (cliché) good and bad.
Let's discuss the bad reason first: After Mark Dantonio won the BIG Ten title the other night, he talked about his 2012 squad: “we always came up a little bit short than where we needed to be.” The quote leads the listener to wondering how many second thoughts did Dantonio and his staff have after their 2012 season: “Should've, Could've, Would've” How many 'little bit shorts' have the Cards had in their three winnable lost games? Missed 50 yard field goal (Rams)...Larry's fumble/ Defense on the field way too long (9ers)...Palmer cocking his arm back to hit Golden BEHIND the defense, then getting hit and fumbling/Holding penalties? (Eagles). Futile. I tried to rid myself of this 'stinking thinking', and dumped those thoughts in the proverbial trash, and wanted to find some hope in this dichotomous season of Cardinals football.
And the one and only Good reason: I wasn't expecting this: actual football being played by the men in red. Only one, or two games these cats have been out of it by the third quarter? Amazing job by the front office, amazing job by the coaches, amazing job by the team leaders, and on and on: I can't say enough. Everybody has their roles, and they do them well enough that the final product represents football and entertainment. I am pleased, as I hope you are too. My opinion of this season is that the good outweighs the bad.
Win, lose or draw, the last three weeks are going to be amazing. I was just thinking about the games this coming up weekend concerning playoff implications. The teams that I believe that I/we should be rooting for are as follows:
49ers - I think for tie breakers it somehow doesn't bode well for the Cards
Seahawks – Lets just crown their a## for now
Eagles – Tie breaker / they need to win their division
Bears – They need to win their division
Jets – Giving the Panthers a much needed loss
The Pack – Anytime the Cowboys lose is fine by me, but this would greatly help the Eagles
(Obviously) The Cardinals
Saints – ??? still don't know. If the Rams beat them, it would put a lot of pressure on them to perform well against Carolina in the next to last week. Drew Brees isn't anything if he isn't clutch.
Ravens – Gotta beat the Lions to give Chicago better chances of grabbing the division.
You'll never guess how many of these games of the preceding teams are at 'home': 0. ZERO. Zilch.
49ers AT BUCS -5.5
Seahawks AT GIANTS -7
Eagles AT VIKES -4.5
Bears AT BROWNS +2
Jets AT PANTHERS +11
Packers AT COWBOYS Off
Cardinals AT TITANS -2.5
Saints AT RAMS -5.5
Ravens AT LIONS +6
What a weekend in front of us (if my stupid concerns aren't stupid)! All these games are 'away'? It would be nice to get a miracle from the Jets, but as you can see everyone and their grandma thinks they don't have a shot in Charlotte.
Well, the optimism that I felt for five minutes is gone. I went back to the proverbial trash, and picked up my 'stinking thinking' again. Back to futility. Such is the life of a Cardinals fan! I know this post has been all over the place, but thanks for reading.
Bonus post-script: IF (big if here) the Bears got the third seed, and the Cardinals the sixth seed...can you imagine the reaction on this board knowing that the Cards D would possibly be going against Joshua? Would it be irony? It's debatable. Would it considered to be a Full circle? Possibly. Would it be entertainment? Most definitely. Go Cards.
