Harold Goodwin noticed it rather quickly.

Soon after he was hired as the Cardinals’ offensive coordinator, Goodwin watched the video of his new team’s offensive line. He saw things he liked and things he didn’t, but by time he turned the tape off, the list of negatives was far longer the list of positives.

It was time for change.

...later on in the article.....

Since he was hired in January, Arians labeled Brown an “elite” player. As camp kicked off, however, the coach pulled back the curtain and said the line looked better on film than on the field – Brown included in that group.

Best thing I have read since articles about going to the Super Bowl. Levi Brown, Bobby Massie, Nate Potter, Eric Winston........... I may have my personal favorite, but whomever gets the job done is who I will support. Just get the job done.

He must have seen some good things in Sendlein for us not to bring in anyone to challenge him.

Maybe they think they can fix his weakness?

Here's to hoping Sendlein's shoulder injury is healed and stays that way.

I think the best line combo is Brown, Colledge, Cooper, Massie, Winston. But, I don't get to see them everyday either.

They'll put the best 5 combo out there. At least this year there are some parts/players to mix and match to get the best unit on the field and we don't have to see Batiste or a young, raw Nate Potter at LT.

That's NINE, all of which are better than many of the starters we fielded last season. I think Levi and Colledge need to watch their back, I see one of those two being cut during camp

Some games, the depth chart some went as deep as third string.

...

When the Cardinals don pads for the first time during training camp Sunday, they’ll have a front five and backups that are making Goodwin a breath a little easier.

...

Arians won’t play favorites at camp, but admitted he’ll be content with whoever wins the right tackle job.

Michael Bidwill is paying Josh Weinfuss to write this stuff. Maybe he should pay him a little more to read it before he clicks "publish."

Rebuilding the line? Potter, Massie, Colledge, Sendlein, Brown. All those guys were on the line over the last two years.

Rebuilding the offensive line is a sure fire way to lose games. Whis and Grimm did it every year 2010-2012 with their Guard of the Month Club. Get 5 guys who can play and leave them there. It's not just luck that 2008-2009 were the only two years in a decade or more where the Cards had basically the same 5 guys start the majority of games.

Don't buy it. Not one bit.

Continuity of bad talent, leads to the line that plays well together but doesn't have the skill to get the job done anyway.

Jonathan Cooper, Eric Winston, and two rookies in the midst of their development is hardly the same pieces as last year, IMHO.

The Cardinals probably keep at least 8 linemen.

1 - Levi Brown
2 - Daryn College
3 - Lyle Sendlein
4 - Jonathan Cooper
5 - Eric Winston
6 - Earl Watford
7 - Bobby Massie
8 - Nate Potter

I don't see Jeremy Bridges, D'Anthony Batiste, Rich Ohrnberger, or Adam Snyder anywhere on that list.

That is a good thing.

Don't forget that Whiz and Grimm's first choice to replace Brown last year after his injury was D.J. Young from the previous year's practice squad. After Young whiffed in a practice game they went to D'Anthony Batiste.

This year we've actually got NFL caliber players vying for positions. My hope is that this year our offensive line takes a quantum leap up to NFL mediocrity. To me that's serious rebuilding compared to last year.

And I don't buy your take either. To me 2008-2009 proves you wrong. Mike Gandy, Reggie Wells, Lyle Sendlein, Deuce Lutui and Levi Brown plus swingman Jeremy Bridges. All Pro Bowl talent right? The difference is that they played together for 38 games.

Batiste and Ohrberger only played because of injuries to use them as examples is bogus as far as I'm concerned. Snyder was a result of the the Cards brain trust having no idea as to what made a good Guard. Rex Hadnot and Adam Snyder better than Deuce Lutui? Give me a break. There was more changing of the Guards in Arizona than at Buckingham Palace.

2011 four of the five starters in the playoff win over Green Bay in '09 were still on the team yet only one was still starting at the same position. That's just nuts.

That was really puzzling to me and then later led more ammunition to my belief that Grimm and Co. had no clue as to who could play on the offensive line. The Cards brought Young up from the practice squad in 2011 to keep the Eagles from claiming him. So I thought at the time the kid must have some talent. Then he got in a game and couldn't play at all.

Kurt Warner, and Aaron Rogers have a lot to do with you theory, and then you go on to discount injuries ? Not to mention Jeremy Bridges was the LT for the end of 2009 once Gandy got hurt, IIRC. And the line didn't miss a beat, because Warner made up for it.

I counter this arguement with Peyton Manning, who not matter how much the Colts offensive line changed, or going to a completely new line in Denver always seems to have enough protection to get the ball out. Is it the QB or the OL or a combination of both ?

Just sayin'

So as long as you have a HOF QB, and zero injuries your idea works......good luck with putting that together. Not to mention this is the age of free agency, where players come and go fairly regularly.

If you are building a line and are thinking it needs 2 or 3 years to "gell" then that is obsolete thinking, IMHO.

Hey, the truth will unfold. I respect your opinion, it has a lot of support backing it, I am just one that doesn't buy it, not one bit. But that is just one guy. Heck, we can poll the question if you want, should be interesting.

Seen plenty of Arizona Cardinal offensive lines that had 2 or 3 years together, but the talent level was not NFL level so it didn't matter.

No matter how hard LJ SHelton, and Anthony Clement played together with the other guys on the line, it didn't matter cause they couldn't get the job done.

I've done the research on this and it is simply not true. The Cards haven't had the same 4/5 guys start in the same positions on the offensive line two years in a row since the advent of free agency with the exception of the 2008-2009 seasons.

Looking at the Colts: Tarik Glenn started for 10 years. Jeff Saturday for 13 years. Ryan Diem for 11 years. They started together for, I think 6 years. All since the start of free agency.

Green Bay: Chad Clifton 12 years at LT. Scott Wells 8 years at Center. Mark Tauscher 11 years at RT.

The Cardinals have been lucky to get an offensive lineman to last 6 years since 1997. If I'm not mistaken Reggie Wells lasted the longest at 7 years. Lyle Sendlein and Levi Brown will match him this season. I just wish Cooper could play RG then we could have some continuity. Brown, 7th season, at LT, Colledge 3rd season at LG, Sendlein, 7th season at C, Cooper, rookie at RG and Massie, 2nd season at RT.

One more thing. If you look at the SB champions over the last 10-15 years one thing most of them had in common in addition to a top QB was a long time veteran center. So quit bagging on my home boy Sendlein. :p

I think bringing in Cooper and Winston will do wonders for the line this year. If Sendlein goes down we can slide Cooper over to center. Its going to take Levi some time to work out the rust so I'm not worried about him now. If he sucks after the fourth preseason game then I will start worrying.

There's no doubt that we've upgraded talent on the O-line from last year pretty drastically. It will take some time to find where each player best fits along that line and for them to settle in, but I think with Cooper & Winston we have the beginnings of a very godo O-line. We're likely at least one if not two startes away from good, but I think we can at least be average this year, which is light years ahead of last year.

You may whiddle me down via debate on offensive line continuity and production, but I'll be damned if I will be talked into not bagging on Lyle "Free ride" Sendlein.

:D
