I just wish Cooper could play RG then we could have some continuity. Brown, 7th season, at LT, Colledge 3rd season at LG, Sendlein, 7th season at C, Cooper, rookie at RG and Massie, 2nd season at RT.
I would like to have continuity too, but continuity with some actual talent.
That is why I pounded the table for Chance Warmack (even though I am happy with Cooper). It is why I was FURIOUS the Cardinals passed on Menelik Watson.
Its why I want Bobby Massie at RT, and not Eric "Sound bite" Winston.
It is why I have wanted to get rid of Levi Brown for YEARS!
I want continuity, but you have to draft players that can actually play in the league in order to get it.
Cause you cannot get continuity with parts that just don't work. If Daryn College is the answer at guard then I would love to know the question.
I have no need to watch one of my guards screw up play, after play, after play for the sake of continuity.
Get someone that can at least do the basic job he is asked to do, and THEN start talking about continuity.
BTW, the depth guys play into that as well.
When you have to deal with your starters on the line, it is AT LEAST two year until your are done "dealing" with the position.
If you have 3 guards going into to a season, and the high priced one is horrible so he loses his job to his backup, GREAT! The starting guard position is taken, but now the backup is an issue next year.
You want a continuity of 5 guys, I want a continuity of 8 TALENTED guys.
Rich Ohrnberger, Adam Snyder, D'Anthony Batiste, Rex Hadnot, Pat McQuistan, Jeremy Bridges part II, DJ Young, and Ben Claxton are not going to cut it at any level, at any roll, no matter how much you play them together.
The Cardinals don't have the Tarik Glenn, Ryan Diem, Jeff Saturday, Chad Clifton, Mark Tauscher of the NFL. They don't. The reason those players played so long is because they were talented enough to play in the NFL.
Who was the last Cardinal offensive lineman, besides Leonard Davis to do ANYTHING once he left the Cardinals ? Its a talent problem in Arizona. Get the talent, then worry about continuity.
Speaking of talent, I think
Bobby Massie, Nate Potter, Eric Winston, Jonathan Cooper, Earl Watford, and Lyle Sendlien is a good start to the talent level the Cardinals need to get to, and that is 6 players out of the 8 that most carry on a roster. Notice I don't have Levi Brown, whom I believe not matter how much plays on a line with the same guys, is going to play like he has played most of his career, which is very sub-average.
To look at it right now, the Cardinals may be in a position next season where they are looking for a left tackle to finish the completion of the line you would want to "play together for 5 to 6 years". And how many teams in the NFL are looking for a left tackle ? A lot. Thus the Cardinals may be able to get an NFL quality line out of who they have right now. There was no way I would have said that about any of the offensive lines I watched over the last 3 seasons.
Talent needed to be upgraded.
