Whis is too nice to hold player accountable. He needed veteran leaders and coaches to keep the team in line and when they left is when he struggled. Most NFL player will look to take advantage of nice guys.

Said that the coordinators ran the practices while he was here and that Haley was most responsible for the offense.

Haley is a strong personality that rubs some players the wrong way but after he left even the offensive guys who didn't like him felt they needed him.

Good find CT. Ralph came away sounding very informed & very intelligent. This is the kind of information that we as fans are shielded from. If this is all true, I have absolutely no qualms whatsoever in bringing in Haley to be our HC. I'm sure Cardinal brass is well aware of his overall involvement in our success in 08, hence their interest in him, even with the reputation that he developed in KC. This is a great thread, one that I'll go back & listen to again. I agree wholeheartedly that a HC can't have that super nice guy personality, otherwise the players will eventually take advantage of him, win or lose. I think that's why guys like Crennel have not made it as HC's in the NFL. I have no idea what Horton's personality is like relative to this subject, but I prefer Haley, mainly because of his experience as a HC & his relationship to Parcells. Very damaging for Whiz's HC opportunities, unless he has tough nosed coordinators with him.

Like many of you, I was at every training camp Haley was here. What Brown states was obvious to me, and should have been to anyone paying the least bit of attention.

This shines a bit of a different light about Haley. But being a leader and managing players is not the same as being a complete dbag.

I will say one of the things I hated about Whiz was his stoic/nonchalant demeanor. Even when things were going bad, he never showed any emotion. He never acted like he was mad or that the game was going differently than he expected. If I was losing 50-0, I would be laying into some people on the sidelines. I hate Harbaugh and Carrol but at least they are passionate/emotional about what is going on in the game. I'm not saying Haley is the answer but at least he has that fiery demeanor.

I guess it lends more credence to what some thought that Haley and Warner had more to do with the success of the team in 08. Brown also mentioned that guys like Warner had a hand in the leadership of the team and after he left in 09 the team took a spiral down as there was a lack of leadership.

Glad MB didn't give Wiz another year.

Tony Dungy is a super nice guy and he won a Super Bowl. I think being an ****** isn't a quality necessary in an HC. Being a motivator and a leader of men is. I think Horton is the latter, but not the former.

Haley, not so much.

I'm still trying to figure out how Brown thought Calvin Pace was on the team during the Superbowl run..

I thought he was referencing Pace as one of the talented players the Cards lost, not necessarily that he was on Super Bowl run.

When I see the tape, it appears to me that Brown did not give his full effort when reaching for the ball. To me, it appears he--for lack of a better way of saying in--alligator arms the attempeted tip.

That was an interesting take by Ralph Brown. I always thought Whiz would be anything but a nice guy by just watching him on the sideline. He appeared to me to be a tough sort of guy. Just goes to show you how appearances can be deceptive. Apparently Ralph thinks nice guys get eaten alive by experienced players. Thanks for the feed.

Tell me something I don't know.

Unless you are actually around Whiz how are you to judge how mean or how nice he is. A guy that always appeared mean to me was Buddy Ryan but then I did not know him. I always had the feeling Dennis Green would be a tough man but that is just from observation and interviews.

One guy I do know was or could be a bad a-- was George Steinbrenner and Vince Lombardi. Woody from Ohio State would even hit his players so he sure was no good guy.
