Keeping with the POLL theme:

Who's your favorite rock band from the 80's period? Feel free to write in, I just pulled 20 out of my brain, which was no easy task.

In the 80s/90s, I probably would have voted Mötley Crüe, but at this point in my life I have a much greater appreciation for GNR. I wore a cassette of Appetite for Destruction out in 9th grade and there are many songs on Use Your Illusion that I really like even today.

Van Halen and Kool and the Gang. I know it's conceivable, but I wish those two could get back together and go on a tour together. That would be the ULTIMATE concert!

Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, and of course, AC/DC!!

But, on that list, I pick Rush.

Balls, how could I possibly forget ACDC. The other two as well but talk about obvious. Oh well like I said, I just put the first 20 that came to mind.

ACDC would be in my top 5 forsure, I'm ashamed. Metal fingers down. :(

I'm not sure any of those qualify as Metal/Rock. Only possible one would be Concrete Blonde (imo)

I wasn't sure if he meant choose a band that is metal/rock or if he just meant choose a band that would have played on a metal or rock station in the 80's. When Matt offered Kool & The Gang I figured I wasn't the only one with that question. I did vote for Aerosmith out of the options available.

My head exploded when Matt suggested Kool & The Gang, so that part had been long forgotten :)

Aerosmith is a solid choice.

Is everything
If the 70's catalog counts in this poll then I'd pick Alice Cooper. But if it's only 80's, then no dice on the Coop.

Pantera was not around in the 80s besides the glam albums most people dont even know about. Cowboys from hell was 1992.

In a van...down by the river.
I wanted to vote Floyd....but couldnt because they were pretty much done after the Wall album in 1980.

So i went with Rush.....easy decision. I was a Rush geek. Saw them 7 times in the 80's. Traveled to see them too. Neil peart was God. :D

U2 is the band of the 80s (and the band of the 90s) as far as I am concerned. Nobody else comes close.

I know what you mean. I soured on the radio about the time Disco took over the airwaves. Most of the music that I know from the mid-70's on comes from movies or word of mouth. Although my son did keep me from being completely out of touch until he left home in the mid-90's, our tastes weren't exactly in sync. Now, if someone would just start a poll to choose between Doo *** and the Girl Group sound or the Yardbirds vs Cream, I'd feel right at home here.

I voted for Motley Crue, but that is because the poll itself asks for the best 80's "Rock" band. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Pantera don't fit because they are "Metal" and Pantera's impact was in the 90s. Pink Floyd just doesn't fit on this list. They are my favorite band of all time across all genres, but to classify them in "Rock/Metal" just doesn't make sense.

Motley Crue was the mainstream band in the 80's that scared parents sh*tless. From their SOTD blood and sacrifice image, to the TOP androgeny imagery, to the leather, denim, and bikes of GGG, they were not only the best rock band, they were performers on all levels.

That's my take....

Just a stupid question... I don't really know because I never listened much more than a cut or two, but do the Sex Pistols belong here somewhere???? Somehow with names like Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious they had better have been good, were they?
